Enoc Perez | Selected Drawings and Paintings

Opening this afternoon, looking forward to welcome you from 5 to 7:30 PM.

“Speaking of hands, Enoc draws like an angel. A good drawing is a measure of just the right amount of effort: too much, and it’s like a heavy sauce on the dish; too little, and it blows away like dandelion spores.

A good drawing is a measure of rightness. A good drawing can be witty and fresh, or it can make you feel sadness; it should always make you want something, long for something, even something missing.

These things, these qualities, are the result of instinct, talent (sometimes referred to as skill), and taste all working together. You will find all this and more in these drawings.”
— David Salle

The exhibition coincides with the release of a book produced by the gallery in collaboration with the artist, featuring introductions by, Jacoba Urist, David Salle and Richard Prince.

Moving between narrative compositions and non-representational abstraction, Uwe Tobias explores emotional states, memory and invention, engaging with art history as a living reservoir of images and sensibilities. His work brings together psychological interiors and folkloristic motifs rooted in collective memory and tradition. These references are transformed into a distinctive visual language shaped by personal and collective histories, memory and the act of painting itself. The grotesque becomes a space where humour, unease, beauty and distortion coexist.

Stay tuned for Tobias’s first solo show with the gallery titled ‘Nothing, but..’ , and the release of his first book, produced in collaboration with the gallery under the same title, featuring an extensive essay by Florian Waldvogel.

More information coming soon.

The gallery is pleased to share that The Language of the Everyday, Michael Craig-Martin’s first museum exhibition in Taiwan, is now on view at the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts.

Spanning five decades of the artist’s practice, the exhibition explores his distinctive visual language, from Conceptual art to immersive digital installation. Transforming everyday objects into bold, colorful symbols, Craig-Martin examines how we relate to the world through technology, design, and consumption. The exhibition also features An Oak Tree (1973), a landmark work of British Conceptual art.

On view through March 7, 2027.

We are pleased to invite you to Enoc Perez’s first exhibition at the gallery, Drawings & Selected Paintings, opening Friday, October 9, from 5 to 7:30 PM.

For this exhibition, the gallery has published the artist’s forthcoming book, featuring texts and essays by Richard Prince, David Salle, and Jacoba Urist.

“Enoc came up with a painting process as if he’d plugged into an early Moog synthesizer. It straddled the line between abstraction and representation. A kind of upside down tight rope walker. Making him an artist who feeds the hand that shakes him.”
Richard Prince

Perez’s paintings draw from the visual language of modernism, architecture, and popular imagery. His subjects become carriers of memory, personal, collective, and imagined.

The exhibition is on view through November 14, 2026.

Reflex Amsterdam is excited to announce its representation of Uwe Tobias, widely known, together with his brother Gert, through their collaborative practice as the duo Gert & Uwe Tobias.

Over the past seven years, Uwe Tobias has developed a deeply personal body of work, exploring themes of memento mori, vanitas, still life, landscape and imagined terrains. Moving between figurative compositions and abstraction, his paintings inhabit a space between memory and invention, where grotesque figures, ambiguous forms and dreamlike spaces evoke both familiarity and mystery.

His new body of work as a solo artist will be premiered worldwide in Amsterdam in late November and will remain on view for three months, through the beginning of March 2027.

We are equally excited to be working on a major publication, to be released simultaneously with the exhibition, featuring a selection of more than 150 paintings.

More information will follow soon.

Marcus Harvey’s Tragic Historical Head is a powerful bronze sculpture in which a multitude of historical figures and cultural references merge into a single monumental face. Incorporating figures such as Captain Nelson, Winston Churchill, and Margaret Thatcher, alongside symbols including cauliflower, cricket, architectural pillars, police helmets, hands, and the familiar face of Thomas the Tank Engine, the work explores the complex layers of British history, politics, identity, and collective memory.

A reflection on the people, objects, and symbols that have shaped, and continue to complicate, ideas of British identity, the sculpture feels especially resonant in the present moment.

Currently on view in the gallery until 12th of September.

Now on view at the Rothko Museum Rotko muzejs / Rothko Museum: The Other Mind: Roger Ballen. A Retrospective

Roger Ballen has long been one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary photography, whose unsettling, poetic, and deeply psychological work blurs the boundaries between documentary and fiction, reality and dream, human and animal, sanity and madness. This retrospective, curated specifically for the Rothko Museum, presents his evolution from stark documentary realism to intricately staged, psychologically charged compositions.

The exhibition’s curator, Aivars Baranovskis, warns: “Ballen’s images are not meant to be understood ‘they are meant to be felt. They provoke, disturb, and linger in the mind. This exhibition invites you to confront your own subconscious, to explore the other mind’ the one we often ignore, but which Ballen fearlessly exposes.”

Supported by Daugavpils City Council and the State Culture Capital Foundation of Latvia.

Curated by Aivars Baranovskis.
