Q***r Parenthood: From a BIPOC Perspective⁠

Our YOMU rental space, run by Zergei Samson, is a space to make your own, within an inspiring cultural environment. On Saturday 10 October, Encourager (Encourager) hosts the first Q***r Parenthood Conference & Podcast Launch ch, a programme co-created with Gebi Seedorf (Gebi Naomie Seedorf) and Afiah Vijlbrief.⁠

The afternoon brings together q***r parents, prospective parents, families, professionals and allies to share stories, exchange knowledge and build community, with a focus on BIPOC q***r experiences.⁠

The programme includes a keynote and workshop by Aminata Cairo, a workshop with Aldo Rodriguez and sierra, an information market and the official launch of the Q***r Parenthood Podcast.⁠

Shorts by Kids⁠
⁠
Together with Cinekid Festival (Cinekid), OSCAM invites young creatives aged 10-13 to step into the world of filmmaking.⁠
⁠
During Shorts by Kids, participants will create their own short film from start to finish. From developing a story and writing a script to working in front of and behind the camera, experimenting with special effects and discovering the editing process.⁠
⁠
Guided by film professionals, participants will explore different roles within filmmaking while developing their own creative ideas and skills.⁠
⁠
Their final films will be celebrated with a special screening at OSCAM.⁠
⁠

OSCAM BOUT IT #6 x Noell3: An ARTist in Residence⁠
⁠
BOUT IT is OSCAM’s ongoing programme exploring hip-hop as more than music: as culture, archive, artistic language and a space for identity, storytelling and community. Since 2018, BOUT IT has made room for women, q***r artists and other voices that remain on the margins of hip-hop, through exhibitions, international writers’ camps, exchange and a live programme.⁠
⁠
For BOUT IT #6, OSCAM takes the next step: from short-term encounter and exchange towards long-term artistic development. At the centre of this edition is the multidisciplinary artist and performer Noell3 (NOELL3), based in Amsterdam Zuidoost.⁠
⁠
Together with OSCAM and KIP Republic (KIP Republic), Noell3 begins an artist-in-residence trajectory in which music, performance, research and community become part of one evolving artistic process.⁠
⁠
During ADE, audiences are invited into that process through an intimate listening session and artistic encounter. Noell3 shares new work and offers a first glimpse into the development of her artistic practice.⁠
⁠
Rather than presenting only a finished work, BOUT IT #6 makes the process itself visible. The ADE session is an important first public moment within a longer trajectory leading towards Noell3: An ARTist in Residence at OSCAM in 2027.⁠

Recap: Masters in Procrastination and Ma********on

We look back with pride at Masters in Procrastination and Ma********on, the first solo exhibition by OSCAM’s own Zergei Samson, known as Zed. Samson (.samson).

Through a series of paintings, Zergei explored personal experiences of insecurity, loneliness and the process of learning to accept oneself.

Thank you to Zergei for inviting us into his reflections on sexuality, self-acceptance and mental health.

Are you a young creative ready for your first solo exhibition? Young OSCAM Art Kitchen (YOAK) gives emerging talent the space to learn the ins and outs of exhibition-making, present their work, and build valuable connections in the art world.⁠

For this edition, we’re looking for a motivated maker with an existing body of work who is excited to experiment and collaborate with our trainee curators, producers, and programmers to build an exhibition at OSCAM. ⁠

Who are we looking for?
• 18 - 32 years old • An existing body of work • A maker working across diverse mediums, preferably within the audiovisual field • No previous public exhibition experience

One week left to visit Where We Land by Vanity Wezer, take a moment to hear from the people behind the exhibition and discover the stories, landscapes and everyday moments that come together in Vanity’s work. We talked with artist Vanity Wezer () and one of the exhibition curators Himaya Segawa Ayo behind Where We Land to hear their perspective on the exhibition.⁠

Presented as part of Young OSCAM Art Kitchen (YOAK), the exhibition explores how place shapes the way we experience time, inhabit space and find meaning in the everyday. Through intimate figurative paintings, Wezer captures moments of landing in the rhythms, landscapes and environments of Suriname.⁠

OSCAM featured in Het Parool⁠

In a beautiful article, Edo Dijksterhuis explores Bevan Agyemang’s Materialising Memories, his first solo exhibition in the Netherlands. The article looks at the different stories, memories and cultural references woven into Agyemang’s work, and how his use of fashion, photography, video and sculpture creates space for different interpretations and associations.⁠
⁠
The article also reflects on the connection between Agyemang’s work and the Bijlmer community, including the memories shared by local residents during the creative process.⁠
