The journey with these 14 lovely seniors has come to an end. Looking back, I finally understand why this performance appeared in my life — everything was perfectly arranged by the universe.

We only had seven rehearsals before performing. All of May’s practices were cancelled because Chun-Shing and I had to return to Hong Kong — our families were hospitalized. It’s been such a tough year for us, full of challenges and tears. But these old friends brought back tears of joy and healing.

Three songs in the show were written by Hong Kong composers and lyricists, inspired by the seniors’ own stories. When Kris shared the recordings with me, I cried listening at home — so powerful and sincere. None of them are trained singers, but their voices carried truth and life. Sometimes technique matters, but authenticity moves hearts.

One senior told me after our counseling chat, she finally shared a story hidden for 50 years with her children — letting go of the heavy stone in her heart. I cried hearing her message. It made me realize how counseling and art can truly heal.

These 14 amazed me — at this stage of life, still brave enough to step out of their comfort zones, sing, perform, and share their deepest stories on stage. In Chinese culture, we often hide emotions, but they opened up decades of silence in front of 200 people. That’s real courage.

This performance healed them, and it healed me — and, I believe, every person who watched.
I’ve always dreamed of creating this kind of devised, documentary-style performance with ordinary people. The universe gave me this gift at the perfect time.

After the show, I said quietly:
“I love doing this. If this is how I can serve best — please, continue to use me.”

So grateful for these 14 seniors.

同呢14個老友記嘅旅程終於完結，回望返轉頭終於明白點解有呢個演出嘅出現喺我生命入邊，所有嘢個天都安排得剛剛好。

今次嘅演出排練只係得7次，就要演出。五月成個月嘅綵排取消左，因為我同雞扎五月返咗香港，屋企人入咗醫院。

呢一年係我同雞扎過得好困難嘅一年，發生咗好多事，一浪接一浪，流咗好多好唔開心好傷心嘅眼淚。好多謝呢班老友記，令呢一年加返好多感動同開心嘅眼淚比我。

呢個演出入邊有三首歌由香港作曲同埋作詞人去創作，基於呢14個老友記嘅感受同故事去寫出嚟，佢哋仲去咗錄音室去錄音。記得嗰一晚阿Kris同我分享錄好嘅歌，我係屋企一路聽一路流眼淚，好Powerful，佢哋冇人本身係識唱歌，佢哋嘅聲音已經係充滿故事，就係佢哋本身好純粹好真誠咁樣唱出嚟已經好感動到身邊嘅人，有時表演技巧係好重要，但係另外一方面嗰種純粹同埋真誠更加重要。仲有一晚，平時排練完之後我都會同老友記係WhatsApp傾計，去一齊諗佢哋個講稿，記得一個老友記同我分享，當我同佢輔導完之後，佢鼓起勇氣將收埋咗50年嘅故事同佢仔女分享，放低咗一半嘅心頭大石（而另一半大石佢成功喺演出放低埋），嗰陣時聽完佢嘅錄音我忍唔住喊咗出嚟，因為我覺得好感動，自己呢一兩年讀完關於心理輔導嘅嘢真係可以幫到身邊嘅人，混合埋演出透過表演藝術去影響其他人。

我覺得佢哋14個好犀利，行到人生差唔多最尾嘅階段都有勇氣去嘗試完全新嘅領域，走出自己comfort zone，唱歌表演，由零開始。仲要喺台上面分享自己移民時候嘅辛酸同經歷，華人社會一向都比較傾向收埋自己嘅情感，有句話：家醜不得外傳，好多嘢都冇同身邊嘅人分享，但佢哋今次有咁樣嘅勇氣企係個台，透過排練同輔導之後，同二百幾個觀眾分享自己50年都冇同屋企人甚至仔女分享嘅故事，係非常勇敢嘅表現，佢地跨過咗一大步。

呢個演出療癒咗佢哋，都療癒咗我，甚至係觀眾。我一直都好想做呢類型Devised, documentary performance ，同素人- 老友記去合作創作一個演出，個天真係喺啱嘅時候俾咗呢份禮物我，我記得完咗演出，我同個宇宙講，我真係好鍾意做呢樣嘢，我好想繼續做。如果咁樣係用到我最大既能力嘅話，請你繼續用我。

4 & 5 October at OBA Amsterdam Theatre — two sold-out shows filled with laughter, tears, and deep connection.
The audience journeyed with our 14 Chinese seniors through stories of memory, identity, and healing.

We witnessed emotions that had long been hidden finally finding their voice — and together, we laughed, cried, and embraced the beauty of being seen. 💛

Growing up, I always dreamed of having a pet, but my parents never allowed it… 🐶🐱

✨ The Imaginative Pet is a performative workshop where participants bring their dream pets to life — not with fur or feathers, but with Arduino sets and upcycled materials.

Led by Chun-Shing and Carmen Lee, participants crafted their own robotic creatures, filled out pet adoption forms, and reflected on what these companions reveal about their inner world. In Cantonese, there’s a saying: 「狗似主人形」 — pets often mirror their owners.

So… what would your robotic pet say about you? 🤖💜
