NXS world

NXS world NXS is a printed platform that experiments with new ways of transmitting information and connecting radically diverse points of view within one issue.

NXS WORLD is a collaborative artwork that explores ‘the self’ in the age of digital technology, manifested in a biannual publication as its core, satellite events and artworks NXS builds up its
content by creating a network of articles, essays, interviews and artistic statements that work in dialogue with each other. Every edition is a curated selection of works based on the
contributors artisti

c, scientific and philosophical position. Focus of the first issue: Cyber-sensuality
We have developed an intimate relationship with the technological tools we use. Screens have become the surfaces of our feelings, connecting and isolating us at the same time. We experience reality through machines. The symbiosis between humans and machines has catalysed new understandings of gender, normality, nature and being human. We sleep with our phones under our blankets, we practice sexting in the metro. We have jumped from the touch of human skin to a VR erotic experience, and can now satisfy any of our fetishes or fantasies online. These behaviors redefine how human beings can be portrayed through the machine as an echo of the non-virtual.

Official release Thursday 9 June! Capsule collection NXS World x Voddenmannen

This limited edition of unique fashion items is designed with Amsterdam based label Voddenmannen. It is inspired by the digital filters and transformational tools we apply to sculpt our avatars online, translated back into garments that push the normative boundaries and perceptions of the physical body. Designed as pieces that extend the body throughout the phygital realm, they can be either seen as protective gear or armor, or rather as a liberating expansion of physical limitations. The garments are remodeled from discarded post-consumer products. Through their highly tactile materials they enhance the physical experience of texture, touch and sound.

Save the date! On June 9th, our newest issue NXS #6 Phygital Fashioning will be released.

NXS #6 Phygital Fashioning explores the representation, consumption and transmission of digital fashion as one of the key mediators of the collective and individual public construction of the Self.

How do these new ways of dressing communicate our identity and how we want  others to perceive us? What complications do the digitization and democratization of this form of self-expression bring forth? By using digital fashion as a lens, the contributors in this issue contemplate what their findings might say about larger changes within an increasingly global and digital society.

Looking for 1-2 people to share our studio with from now or next month on! It’s a roomy space at the lovely ISO in Amsterdam West. Huge desk (160 x 320 so following the RIVM guidelines 🧼). ISO hosts a variety of creatives and has many workshops (wood, ceramics, etc). You will share the studio with 2 people: Karolien Buurman and Monika Gruzite. Mostly graphic design and research/writing activities, so if you're looking for a more clean desk based environment (as opposed to atelier/painting/material production etc). Rent is €171 but if you know someone else who would like to join we can share with 4 and rent would be €130. DM if interested and pass it on!

Back for throwback! Here is another beautiful blast of a visual contribution from the past. NXS #2 Synthetic Selves has sold out completely, that’s why we want to share some of its content here for you to enjoy. Here you can see how Kristýna Kulíková amazingly dealt with the fact that Synthetic Selves was printed in black and white (except for its neon orange silkscreened cover). So strong and fitting!

Another throwback to a previous contribution to NXS, this time from 2018. We’ve always been a big fan of Simone Niquille’s work, and looking back at this beautiful and powerful spread she made for NXS #3 Viral Bodies we are still filled with excitement that she is part of it. Viral Bodies is still for sale in our webshop! (link in bio)

Throwback Thursday puts us in a sentimental mood. Thinking back of where it all started in 2017, when our first issue Cyber Sensuality came out. Flipping through its pages and realizing again how incredible the contributions were. As Cyber Sensuality has sold out completely, we wouldn’t want to hold back on sharing some of its amazing content with you here. Here is a great one by Celestin Krier.

Could this collective profusion of broken silences be potentially building a space for assembling; a space where our incompletenesses not only encounter, but one where we come together in our differences? Then, would you say that this could be signaling the contingent of a future that is reimagined through a suddenly awoken, mutual solidarity?

From: Dear Mother by Vita Evangelista NXS #3 Viral Bodies ()

We stand in solidarity with the ones who fight the systems of control that deem some lives less worthy than others. Let’s not stop imagining bright new futures 🌬🤍

NOW AVAILABLE ONLINE: a limited edition of A1 silkscreened prints each triggering access to an augmented reality layer with works by six artists: Jon Emmony, Rick Farin, H5IO, Mary Ponomareva, SELAM X and kid xanthrax for exhibition Future Ruins by NXS World.
🔵
Each artist speculates on different ways in which digital technology will affect the concept of the self, and how the self can be upheld in the near future: techno-suicide, the notion of time, new forms of kinship, the invisibility of technology and the human evolution. Together, they serve as a guide for new directions in the ongoing investigation of selfhood within the precarity of the digital age.
