Call to regulate video game loot boxes over gambling concerns

A US politician has condemned the "predatory practices" seen in games that feature loot boxes or crates.
Games use them to give random rewards and they are acquired either through gameplay or by spending real cash.
Hawaiian state representative Chris Lee said games using boxes resembled casinos and called for laws to limit their use.
The condemnation comes as Belgian gambling regulators investigate the growing use of in-game rewards.

The service model offered by Amazon Key, which gives the company's delivery corps access to customers' homes via smart lock, sounds kind of sketchy under the best circumstances. Amazon, however, assured potential customers there'd be nothing to worry about with Key — the system offers 24/7 monitoring via the Alexa-enabled Cloud Cam to monitor deliveries.

That security safeguard doesn't look quite so foolproof after a group of researchers from Rhino Security Labs discovered multiple techniques to knock out the Cloud Cam and enter a house equipped with a Key system undetected. The group shared its findings with Wired and in two videos demonstrated the techniques behind the relatively simple hacks, which could allow unscrupulous delivery people to move around Key-enabled homes undetected.

'Thor: Ragnarok' prop revealed to be 3D-printed.
Turns out to get yourself an awesome villain helmet bristling with evil-looking antlers, you're gonna need a 3D-printer.
In the clip above, Jose Fernandez from Ironhead Studio talks about the challenge of making Hela's helmet for Thor: Ragnarok.

The prop studio made the helmet using a 3D-printer after scanning Cate Blanchett's head. Despite its impressive size it only weighs about 4 lb.

The social network is rebranding its standalone events hub app to also include listings for restaurants, entertainment, and other businesses within the general vicinity of a user.
Along with invitations to events and listings of nearby happenings, users will now see business recommendations from friends, searchable maps, and a list of any Facebook connections who happen to be in the area.

"The new app, Facebook Local, helps you easily find what to do, where to go, where to eat, or what you need— all recommended by the people you know and trust,” Facebook product manager Aditya Koolwal said in a statement.

Fleets of school buses shuttle American students to class five days a week, nine months a year, pumping out diesel fumes as they roll along — but now, thanks to one of the biggest automakers in the world, more of those big yellow rigs are going green.
German auto conglomerate Daimler unveiled its first all-electric school bus, which will be made by its North American Thomas Built Buses subsidiary. The Saf-T-Liner C2, also dubbed "Jouley" after the unit of energy, is slated to hit the roads across U.S. school districts in 2019.

Jouley doesn't look much different from other school buses, with the capacity to haul 81 students per trip, but it's what's inside that counts. The rig's 160kWh battery provides a range of up to 100 miles per charge, and Daimler says that the bus can be equipped with an extra battery pack for more mileage.

Taylor Swift shares Reputation album track list after it leaks online - and it includes a song with Ed Sheeran
The Love Story singer's hotly-anticipated album is out on Friday.
Taylor Swift has released the full track list for her latest album, Reputation.

Along with the four songs that the Love Story pop star has already released, other titles include I Did Something Bad, Don't Blame Me and This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things.

There's also a song called End Game in which she teams up with close pal Ed Sheeran and US rapper Future.
Along with Taylor, producers credited on the CDs back cover include Max Martin, Shellback and Bleachers frontman Jack Antonoff, all of whom contributed to her previous album, 1989.

Taylor shared the tracklist on social media along with a countdown.
