In Beginnings presenteert Frascati Producties op één avond twee onderzoekswerken van jonge theatermakers. In oktober is het de b***t aan Nicolás Lange en Agnes Jung Lassen om na een maand ontwikkeltijd hun onderzoek te tonen.

Zeven dagen voor de uitbarsting van de Vesuvius in Pompeï worden twee jonge mannen verliefd op elkaar. Tegen de achtergrond van een stad die afstevent op een ramp, delen ze een week vol seks, graffiti, maaltijden, geweld en Latijnse liederen.
Op de laatste dag komt alles abrupt tot stilstand. De uitbarsting bedelft de stad onder as en steen en bewaart hun omhelzing voor eeuwen...

(S*x)Work It! is not here to behave. It is here to disrupt, challenge, and provoke. This is a space where s*x workers take over Frascati’s stage as creators.

Join us for the second edition of (S*x)Work It! in collaboration with Red Light Icons. This collective started out in the streets of the Red Light District as a call for visibility. Now they are taking over Frascati, with their S*x Workers Throughout History Fashion Show. During this evening, fashion, community, s*x work and stories of resistance come together on the stage to explore, reinvent, and celebrate the history of s*x work.

𝙒𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙙𝙤𝙚𝙨 𝙖𝙧𝙩 𝙚𝙣𝙙 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙨𝙚𝙭 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠 𝙗𝙚𝙜𝙞𝙣? 𝘼𝙣𝙙 𝙬𝙝𝙤 𝙙𝙚𝙘𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙨 𝙞𝙩?
(S*x)Work It! came to exist from the belief that there is no hard separation between art and s*x work, as if one belongs to “culture” and the other to “taboo”. However, whereas art institutes in Amsterdam’s city centre are given municipal funding, s*x workers operating in the same district currently fear the threat of being displaced out of the public sight.

Amsterdam’s Red Light District has always been a as a vital location for s*x work and has played a crucial role in the history of s*x work. With (S*x)Work It! Frascati, located within the Red Light District, gives space for s*x workers to come together and resist through art and community organizing.

𝘈𝘯 𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘺 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘱𝘢𝘪𝘯, 𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯 𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘸𝘢𝘺.

She was born for happiness explores the relationship between self-harm and the promise of happiness. This performance approaches self-harm as a response to structural violence rather than an individual problem, by critically addressing environments that demand constant positivity, success, and happiness. Places where pain, doubt, or the inability to belong, are made invisible.

Through theatre and new media, the work is recreating living spaces in which acts of self-harm have taken place. A porcelain collection, a tablecloth and a vase of flowers suddenly become silent witnesses. Writer and theatre director Veronika Abdul-Visocka explores the cracks in environments that are designed for “the good life”.

While the work is rooted in the authors' personal experiences, it communicates with several literary works, films and visual arts pieces. By doing so, the makers strive to create a space to speak about experiences of self-harm without falling into violent self-exposure, or romanticization of pain.

We hebben de wereld onttoverd. God vermoord. En nu staan we hier, als een eenzaam kind dat zich wil verwonderen, maar door volwassenen met logica wordt afgestraft.

In God kom(t) terug duikt Hajar Fargan in wat we verloren zijn in onze race naar 'beschaving'. Van religie en ritueel tot wanen en waarzeggers. Zijn we werkelijk zo rationeel als we denken? Of is onze grootheidswaan slechts dat, een waan?

De wereld wil woekeren, groeien, zichzelf opnieuw uitvinden. Wij staan ondertussen klaar met brandende hooivorken en verklarende wetenschap om haar te bedwingen. Maar wat als we juist verlangen naar wat we uitbannen?

Na Meet the Method en Dagboek van een beweging maakt Hajar haar derde solo: een tekstueel en auditief manifest tegen de 'onttovering' van de wereld. Een verkenning van magisch denken en een verzet tegen een platte werkelijkheid.

An important part of the research for becoming god took place in Malaysia, in the Taoist temple of Melyn’s uncle, Chow Tek Sen. Excerpts from the documentary about Melyn’s research are screened every evening in the basement of Verbond Café (Nes 71). The documentary, featuring interviews and Melyn’s solo for her uncle, adds an additional visual and sensory layer to the performance and serves as a bridge between our local context and the one in which Melyn grew up.

The installation can be visited freely before the performances, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
