How important is Democracy to you?

One week before the Brazilian presidential elections, Teatro Munganga will screen the documentary Democreation, in which numerous people in Brazil and the Netherlands offer a portrait of the state of democracy at this moment, starting from a central question: What does democracy mean to you?

This event is an invitation for those of us living outside Brazil to reflect together on the Brazilian context from a global perspective. After all, what is happening in Brazil is not so different from what is happening in other parts of the world, whether in Latin America, Europe, Africa, or Asia.

The event will be hosted by Sara Brandellero (University Professor of Brazilian Literature and Culture at Leiden University). The documentary Democreation was made in collaboration with the Democracy in Action project, funded by the European Union and coordinated by Leiden University.

Following the screening, Sara Brandellero will lead a Q&A with the audience.

Has democracy died? Is it in a coma? What can we do about the army of bots that attack democratic institutions en masse and hijack hearts and minds through the manipulation and distortion of news?
