With that delightful take, we hereby announce that Karin Iturralde Nurnberg's exhibition 'are my children are my parents', which was on show from 18. June until 25. July 2022, will slowly seep into the summer month of August by means of an extension of Karin's guided relaxation and joint meditation sessions.

Marwan will pause its regular activity & opening hours until September when Jason Hendrik Hansma's work comes back into play, in between exhibitions at Marwan.

Furthermore, we are excited to announce that we will continue to support and platform extensions of Karin' Iturralde Nurnberg's project throughout the year, marking a further overflow of 'are my children are my parents', which Amsterdams Fonds voor de Kunst will support. an excerpt:

“I am on the other side of the world as I am writing this text, and you are in the room with the work that I am writing about. Right now, my advantage is that I have been speaking to Karin, Karin’s advantage is that she has been making the work, and your advantage is that you and the work are currently enjoying each other’s company. You have sight and I have sound and Karin has touch and together we build a spectrum of experience. For me, right now, the work is incomplete; for Karin, the work is finished; and for you, it is unfolding. The tissues are slowly unfolding onto the floor.*

What do you see? Yesterday, I heard about different works than those you are currently seeing. Last week, I heard works pop up overnight like mushrooms materialising in front of tired eyes and through the movement of experienced fingers. Karin’s are pointed and slender. Shroooom. The works burst into being hot on each other’s heels. What do you see? The week before last, Karin and I zoomed and I saw through shaky video calls and low-lit photographs some of the objects now in your company. The microphone caught the sound of two materials meeting. The tissues caught the colour of the dim, hanging light and the camera lens recorded it as slightly yellow.

*I say tissues throughout this text, I think only because toilet paper has so many lumpy syllables.”

With joy, we invite you to a series of guided relaxation and joint mediation sessions at Marwan, led by Karin Iturralde Nurnberg, after opening hours* of the exhibition

'are my children are my parents'

"Marwan: Exhibition by day, meditation center by night.

A few years ago, I sat down two times a week during a year with my friend and teacher Christian Marcet. He shared with me his meditation practice and guided me through thought and silence. Finding myself very far away from him I keep looking for, and finding, people to share this practice with. In the context of Marwan's Occupational Health and Safety Fund (a bequeathment from the exhibition Two In A Coffin by artists Isabelle Sully and Valentina Curandi, Marwan 2019) I'd like to invite you to a series of guided relaxation and joint meditation sessions at Marwan during the week when the show is not open to visitors.

In the sessions we will go through a very simple breathing technique, a laid-down vocally guided relaxation, and lastly a seated meditation whose duration can change according to the possibilities and our wishes
