Against all odds, our festival ‘A Matter of (In)digestions’ is finally taking place – adapting to the changing conditions and uncertain times. Please check-OUT the program here:
http://www.lacocinaarchive.info/
We would like to warmly thank all the people involved: the artists as well as our partners/hosts and founders, whose trust and support over the last few months has allowed us to continue to believe in this festival, which they also enriched with their perseverance, creativity, and generosity
The festival starts next week with a weekend of events at puntWG (2-4 Oct) entitled “Not LESS-MATERIAL” featuring artists: Céline Mathieu Céline Mathieu, Toon Fibbe & Laura Wiedijk, Maxim Tyminko, and yes... La Cocina.
Looking forward to this one!!
Be Strong and healthy.
**All our events will comply with the health measures in force. Most of them will also be broadcast on-line.
As part of her Summer residency at “De Batterij van Ginds” in Hoofddorp, Laura Wiedijk is working on her installation with sound and fire: “I know that sometimes you need a friend (I’m glad you decided to come to me)”. It will be on view on Saturday 26 September: do not miss it!

Laura Wiedijk plays in her installations and inkjet prints with common presentation formats from the advertising world, such as posters and displays. She sees her work as a praise of all artificial ploys, a celebration of the exuberant and the splendid. The colourful, often particularly detailed posters draw the viewer into a wondrous, kaleidoscopic universe. Laura Wiedijk graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in 2010, and participated in residency programs such as WIELS (Brussels) and FABRIK culture (Hegenheim).
For the opening program of our festival “A Matter of (in)digestions” Laura Wiedijk & Toon Fibbe will present a 12-channel sound installation at puntWG (Friday 02 to Sunday 04, 2020).

Opening this weekend: 'Relearning Images' by students from the Rietveld Academie's Photography Department
Opening: Saturday 25 January 2020, 13.30-16.30 hrs
At: puntWG, WG Plein, 1054 DM Amsterdam
What is a truthful image in a mendacious world?
Can photography be employed as a tool to desire differently?
Can our cameras be used to touch, feel and move?
What are the images we need to unlearn?
And what are the images that make us act?
Over the course of 4 months ten students of the Photography Department of the Rietveld Academie have been formulating the core questions motivating their artistic practices. Examining themes such as q***r forms of life and desire, the end of the world as we know it, the need for female empowerment, illusory representations of romantic love, the limitations of human communication, and the use of practices of quilting and graffiti as a political tools, they have each explored different modes of research, ranging from reading to image gathering and from writing to image making.
On 25 January they will present some first artistic responses to their questions. We hope you will join us for this event filled with multi media installations, screenings and performative readings.
Participating artists: Tasio Bidegain, Dora Lionstone, Sofie Bredholt, Marta Capilla Urbano, Shreya Desouza, Tomás Dudley Baker de Castro Feijó, Alma Kim, Luca Penning, Aurélie Sorriaux and Alizé Wachthausen.
The project takes place in the framework of the thesis that the students work on during their final year and is supervised by artist and research tutor Dorine van Meel.
alumnus Jean Hubert's film 'Waiting for Sleep' will be screened this weekend at puntWG. The opening takes place on Friday 17 January, from 6-8pm.
'Waiting for Sleep' is a homemade CGI survival romance. The film recounts the last days of a young man - Will - who lives surrounded by zombies and who sleepwalks at night, undoing the protections that he sets up for his protection in the daytime. Outside the boundaries of the infected area, society as we know it persists.
