🇳🇱Gisteravond ging Sexi Firmum Iulium van Marmoucha Orchestra & Maripepa Contreras in première in Amare. Een voorstelling die door publiek én pers vol lof werd ontvangen.
Vertrekkend vanuit Almuñécar, haar geboorteplaats aan de Zuid-Spaanse kust, neemt Maripepa ons mee door de vele lagen van haar thuislandschap. Feniciërs, Romeinen, Al-Andalus en het christelijke Spanje lieten sporen achter die nog altijd naast elkaar bestaan in het heden. Almuñécar verschijnt zo als een levend palimpsest, waarin iedere beschaving iets heeft achtergelaten zonder de vorige volledig uit te wissen.
Met een ensemble van tien musici brengt zij deze geschiedenis tot leven in een rijk klanklandschap van flamenco, mediterrane en Arabische tradities, jazz en hedendaagse compositie.
Een enorme dank aan alle musici, Toni Geitani, het team van Amare en natuurlijk aan het geweldige publiek dat deze eerste uitvoering met ons deelde.

🇬🇧Last night, Sexi Firmum Iulium by Marmoucha Orchestra & Maripepa Contreras premiered at Amare. A performance that was warmly received by both audience and critics.
Starting from Almuñécar, her hometown on Spain’s southern coast, Maripepa guides us through the many layers of the landscape that shaped her. Phoenicians, Romans, Al-Andalus, and Christian Spain all left traces that continue to coexist in the present day. Almuñécar emerges as a living palimpsest, where each civilization has left its mark without completely erasing what came before.
Together with an ensemble of ten musicians, she brings this history to life through a rich musical landscape of flamenco, Mediterranean and Arab traditions, jazz, and contemporary composition.
