Leo de Wijs Visual Productions

Leo de Wijs Visual Productions Leo de Wijs is an Amsterdam based concept artist & art director working on small and large animation and educative projects.

Bakenius is the obscure, barely pronounceable internet alias of Ducth animator, art director and illustrator Leo de Wijs. An alias under which he transmits cute characters and weird places onto the internets since 2002. And he has his own official spot on Facebook right here!

It's been ages - but I'm still alive. Actually, I've been so busy with animation projects I neglected pages like these. So, let's see if I can update more often! I spend a week in September painting the South West of France, where we ended up in pittoresk tiny villages like these. Sometimes they felt straight out of an Disney/Dreamworks animation. So, why not give try to push one the scenes I painted myself?

I'm juggling several projects ATM (more on those soon), but my collaboration with Stained Glass Geek is something else - an exciting adventure in the realms glass, lead, light and colour. I think it's an underused art form still largely stuck with old fashioned and religious associations in the public perception. I'm developing many ideas and concepts what could be done with it, as most of you might have noticed over the months. But what better 'proof of concept' then to kick it out water with a bang - using pop culture iconography as subject? For me it's an ode to what I consider the most groundbreaking animated televison series of the last decade: Steven Universe. With their supernatural virtues the protagonists of this show have something saintlike, which made it fun to base a design around them like a church window. Anyway, very exciting how this'll turn out - the heavy lifting (the actual making) is on the capable shoulders of Arjan now. If you are curious for more in between updates on this project check us out on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/stained_glass_geek/ and https://www.instagram.com/leodewijs/

Last few weeks there has been a major preparation going on for the upcoming challenge! Together with Leo de Wijs I'm about to embark into the world of Steven Universe!

Leo created the design, and I'll translate it into a glass puzzle/window ^^

I'm practising stained-glass design in my off-hours. A fun subject to practise I found in a favourite animated series of mine - Steven Universe - to try and incorporate characters of that show into a window design. I've done 3 the last two months and it seems that each subsequent one is getting closer to something convincing...

Happy new year to all of my dear followers! Here's another piece of Undertale fan art I made over the holidays that got a bit popular on Tumblr (7000+ notes in a week) Fun stuff. Now it's back to work on the interesting projects of my clients!

I wish everyone a great holiday season! I finally found some time to do a bit of fanart for my favourite game this year: Undertale. It's a retro-looking RPG, but my imagination is stirred by the iconic pixel art of the game. And some of it is very Christmassy. ;) © Toby Fox, Temmie Chang
