Guest speaker and African designer of the year 2016 Dauvia Nijenhuis was born in Angola and raised in The Netherlands since she was ten years of age. Nijenhuis is a self-taught fashion designer that integrates her African roots into her designs. Her designs reflect the two cultures that have become part of her. She combines African heritage with European influences.

Drinking coffee in Ethiopia is such an important part of daily life that it’s also referred to as a coffee ceremony. During this ceremony people have the opportunity to discuss everything with each other and to maintain contact.

On December 15th, HolisMen has its first official event: “Ubuntu”. During this event, we give guests the opportunity to indulge in the most delicious way there is and step in the world of Sub-Saharian Africa and its wonderful delicacies. We have special guests - indigenous representatives from different cultural groups - who certainly will enrich the discussion. We’re looking forward to welcoming you at HolisCuisine on December 15.

With this event Holismen has an alliance with the Jimmy Nelson Foundation.

The English-Dutch photographer Jimmy Nelson has been travelling for years on end, on a mission to capture the purity and time-honored traditions of unique communities all over the world. His books “Before they pass away” and “Homage to humanity” chronicle the stories of these peoples, and have gained international praise. Using his stunning photos as well as his charity organization, the Jimmy Nelson foundation, Nelson aims to raise awareness of cultural diversity and the impact modern society can have on this.

As Nelson is always trying to find a way to preserve the beautiful traditions he captures in this modern day and age, we think it would be a great idea to work with the Jimmy Nelson foundation during the Ubuntu event. We believe that we share the same vision as his foundation; cultural heritage is extremely precious, and should not only be protected, but celebrated as we step into the future as one unified people. Together, we can celebrate the past, present, and of course the future!
