"Szkło
Design: Aleksandra Zawistowska
Commission: Szkło Studio
Photography: Szymon Adamczyk

The hand-blown drinking glasses of the label Szkło (Polish for 'glass') sometimes stand almost drunk on their feet, the opening of a vase seems to sprout directly from a piece of glass or is full of random bulges. The objects are somewhere between functional objects and collectable design pieces with their playful appearance and wonderful aesthetics at the same time. Designer Aleksandra Zawistowska starts for each individual object

that in nature also does with what it encounters in its stream.
at the drawing board, but within the creative process she leaves a lot of room for chance. She asks her glassblowers to use raw stones, pieces of wood and chunks of cement in the production process. These give the objects their unique, whimsical shape and leave irregularities on the skin of the glass. And sometimes remnants of the materials are enclosed by the still liquid glass to remain trapped there forever. Like volcanic magma Aleksandra studied architecture and art in Warsaw and Lisbon and developed her passion for glass during her training at the Sandberg Institute. Together with her brother Wojciech, she founded Szkło in 2022. Szkło produces the line in crystal glass at the National Glass Museum Leerdam and the more affordable line in Krakow, Poland."

We are completely astonished that during 3daysofdesign, thanks to the explicit curation of , we had a chance to be exhibited in Fredericia Furniture showroom.

What a great satisfaction is to see our glass on iconic designs from 50s and 60s, as well as contemporary forms.

Special gratitude to Culture.pl Instytut Adama Mickiewicza for the support of “Polish Culture Abroad”.
