Dutch and Belgian artists and cultural institutions commit to a boycott of Israel

We, members of the Dutch and Belgian cultural sector, wish to no longer remain bystanders to the ongoing war crimes, crimes against humanity and what has been widely recognized by all authoritative institutions as a genocide of the Palestinian people. With immediate effect, and in response to sustained calls from Palestinian artists and civil society at large, we declare a cultural boycott of the Israeli state and of all Israeli institutions and companies. Exempted from the boycott are those Israeli institutions and companies that are not complicit in violations of international law and have unequivocally spoken out against genocide, apartheid and the illegal occupation. The boycott is explicitly not directed at individuals or their origins, and therefore not at Jewish people or Israelis as such, but rather at the complicity of the Israeli state and Israeli institutions and companies in grave human rights violations against the Palestinian people.

We build on the experiences of the cultural boycott of South Africa, which contributed to the collapse of the apartheid state. We stand in solidarity with our Palestinian colleagues, who are grieving for the violent loss of loved ones, homes and livelihoods. We stand side by side with our Israeli colleagues who join us in the struggle for justice and for the comprehensive rights of the Palestinian people, as stipulated in international law. There can, however, be no question of continuing business as usual: this impunity must come to an end.

Prepare for 100 minutes of non-stop laughter with some of Amsterdam’s most talented resident comedians. Meet your comics:
• Derek Mitchell (Headliner): Known for his wildly popular sketch videos and his hit show Double Dutch: Live, which sold out over 150 times last year, Derek is bringing his best material to Amstelveen.
• Phoebe Perry (Host): A comedian and improviser based in Amsterdam, Phoebe charms audiences with her warm personality and physical comedy. Before moving to the Netherlands in 2019, she was a regular at iO Chicago and performed her solo show Dr. Fifi & Her Imaginary Friends. Now, she’s a regular at Comedy Club Haug in Rotterdam, where she also hosts their late-night experimental show, ROTTDAMMIT.
