I just got home from an amazing trip to Indonesia, where I researched my roots with my brother and followed a 10-day Inner Work Movemeant training by the amazing .world
Those 10 days were profound on so many levels and I’m so happy that I can use what I learnt in my work as a performer and practice with it.
One thing I really loved was “making music visible”. A good song has many layers and it’s amazing to make those layers visible through movement.
Especially with this song, composed by the genius . It is the final song of my new performance Lodewijk, where I dance around a (metaphorical) fire in a farewell ritual. The ending was strongly inspired by the Transforming Anger course that I did in Lisbon this summer, also with Amenti. In this dance, I burn my shame and my guilt. It is a dance of love, grief, hope and liberation. In the piece, the dance is naked. Ha.
The final version of the song was finished only minutes before the premier, basically like the whole piece itself, omg hahaha. I had to throw myself in, head first, and just go with it. and if we may believe the review in Volkskrant… we nailed it. Ha.
But by now, I know this song better and better and really, it gets me every time. This song has so. Many. Layers. I keep discovering new things when I listen to it. You cannot hear it well through a crappy insta recording but I hope I managed to make the music visible with my body.
Because not only I know this song better but I also know my body better. Amenti gave such clear tools to work with, to practice with; I love it. There is still sooo much to learn in terms of flow, surrender, clarity - the practice is endless. What a joy! Because I can already see a huge difference and I can’t wait to keep exploring, on stage, with you as a witness. Keep moving!
This week you can catch me on Wednesday and Thursday in in Utrecht and in Den Haag. Full performance list: see sofiekramer.nl/lodewijk
Btw f**king scary to share this rehearsal video but hey f**k it
