Fleeting Moment
Today I would like to share the right panel of the triptych Moments of Eternity, created especially for the exhibition Bron van Inspiratie in Soest.
Fleeting Moment is the right panel of the triptych.
Coloured pencil, 50 × 70 cm.
This work shows an old horse present in silence, turned inward and deeply absorbed in herself. Of all the horses I drew for this triptych, she was the oldest. That sense of age, calm and inner stillness became the core of the work.
The composition is built around a strong contrast between two emotional states. On one side is the calm, contemplative presence of the old horse, as if she has returned to her own past. On the other side appears a luminous image of happiness held in memory: a girl riding freely and quickly on a horse, carried by light, movement and air.
To strengthen this feeling of freedom, the riding horse is shown without tack, saddle or any other equipment. The image refers to a direct connection between human, animal, nature and emotion: a moment of trust, speed and unrestrained happiness.
Fleeting Moment is about the bittersweet nature of memory. Happiness can be intense and real, but it can never return in exactly the same way. The old horse becomes a bearer of lived time: not only of the loss of physical strength, but also of a rich inner world.
In this work, old age is not emptiness, but depth. What has passed cannot be repeated, yet it continues to live on as feeling, image and quiet presence.
