Benjamin shares his thoughts as visitor on the day of A.E.P.O.C. (May 7th) - subtitles below.

"My name is Benjamin Sam, I work with . Omek partnered up with to do this event, so I came here to support but I was also very interested in some of the panel discussions so I listened in, haha. Generally, it was quite informative. We had, in room two, a panel of 5 but it felt like we had 15 identities on the panel. That was quite interesting, you know, just to see that interaction between people who identify with just one culture.

We don’t need permission to reshape and reclaim our narratives. We have to do it ourselves, and no one is gonna do that for us. That’s what I took away from today. Get out of this shell and speak up. If you don’t speak up nobody is going to do it for you. Whether you’re Asian or African or any group that is in the “minority”, I’ll say that you need to get up and tell your own story, because nobody can tell it for you and nobody can tell it as well as you can. So get up and speak."

Benjamin really hit us with some very inspirational words 💜.

Make sure you give us a follow and stay tuned for A.E.P.O.C. part 2 🔥

Kimberly shares her thoughts as the moderator of her panel on the day of A.E.P.O.C. (May 7th) - translation below.
official - "My name’s Kimberly, Kimberly Moens, I’m from Zeeland. I’m here representing the organisation Asian Raisins (.raisins). The last couple of years I’ve participated in beauty pageants. I’ve been to Miami where I got the title Ms Universe (Elite), meaning I was already over 30 years old - otherwise I would’ve been a Miss 💃.

Our panel was very informative, sociable, everyone got to say their piece. As the moderator, I really didn’t have to do much, because the speakers were all very attuned to one another. There were constant additions, a lot of similarities and differences to be discussed. And those were exactly our topics of the night.

What stayed with me the most was how fluent the conversation was, that they were all really having a good talk and that they had so much common ground. Even when it came to the differences, there was common ground in the sense that they were so opposite of each other that they were pretty similar. So, the differences but also the commonalities within those differences.

Keep following us and make sure you’re there for the next event where we will figure out how we can help and what we can do for each other!"
official thanks for being such a great moderator 💜

Kimberly couldn’t have said it better, so make sure you give us a follow to stay tuned for A.E.P.O.C. part 2 soon 🔥

📢 "WHAT IS A.E.P.O.C.?"

Some people asked is A.E.P.O.C. something like BIPOC?
Nope, A.E.P.O.C. puns on époque, meaning "era" in French.
The "belle époque" is the European golden age for the arts in the end of the 19th century.

The idea behind it is that we are unapologetically present in Europe, we have the power and freedom to do whatever we want to shape, change or influence on this continent. We can give our own meaning to its concepts, shake it up and create its future.

Today, May 7th, we go from 19.00-22.00 (CEST). We have so much to show, so many amazing people present, and so much to talk about! So get your FREE tickets for the event NOW through the link in our bio. See you there! 🎟️🌟

📣 We are proud to introduce to you Raul Balai , our last partner but most importantly the initiator of A.E.P.O.C.!

Raul Balai a.k.a. el bastardo took the initiative to start A.E.P.O.C. He is an artist-curator and exhibition maker based in Amsterdam. Raul uses a number of different styles, genres, to expose and explore what remains at stake within the history of diversities.

Balai is fascinated by the way our exploitative state of mind frames the shape of the world. How this is present in the everyday and the everywhere, and the way the media and academia repeat and portray our world as part of the western ‘situation’, its peoples bravado and its countries heroism. While reworking these subjects in a lighthearted ‘nod and a wink’ manner, underneath this strategy are serious concerns 😉.

Not only does he do this as an artist or curator, but also in his practice as an exhibition maker and designer. By doing so he is ensuring a chatter of ideas and ideals, providing a constant ebb and flow for the context to resonate with the viewer 🌊.

Check out here on Instagram for more about all the amazing projects and work Raul creates!

📢 WHAT IS A.E.P.O.C.?

A.E.P.O.C. refers to the 'Belle Époque', a heyday for the arts in (Western) Europe. It underlines that we are 'non-apologetic' present. It's therefore a pun on the "Belle Époque", but we are not only "belle", we are so much more.

A.E.P.O.C. of course also refers to the abbreviation POC (People of Color). The abbreviation is not fixed in terms of meaning, but can be filled in as required. For example: Art Equity Prolonging Of Culture, Artistic Excellence People Of Color, etc.

Tomorrow, May 7th, is the day. We have so much to show, so many amazing people present, and so much to talk about! So get your tickets for the event through the link in our bio. See you there! 🎟️🌟
