This Friday, opening Interplanetary Night in BIMHUIS: Ludvig Søndergaard Sekstet

As the winner of the Keep an Eye The Records competition, drummer Ludvig Søndergaard was given the opportunity to create his dream band. With these major talents from Amsterdam, he combines and fuses opposite types of composition: intimate piano songs that immediately captivate the listener, and intricate sonic constructions full of irregular rhythms, twelve tone series and electronic experiments. This reflects the division between the Danish countryside, where Ludvig grew up, and the big cities he lived in: Paris, Berlin and Amsterdam.

Next Friday in Amsterdam, Amirtha Kidambi’s Elder Ones live at BIMHUIS for An Interplanetary Night 🪐

Rooted in a deep commitment to social practice, Amirtha Kidambi’s music channels resistance through sound. With her ensemble Elder Ones, the composer creates expansive, exploratory suites that reject conventional song structures in favor of sonic activism confronting systems of oppression. Drums drive an unrelenting march while saxophones erupt in vocal-like cries of defiance, evoking the energy of a mass demonstration. Beneath it all, the harmonium lays a rich droning foundation for Kidambi’s expressive voice to navigate, as the double bass provides a steady anchor amid the turbulence. Drawing from free jazz, post-rock, and radical electroacoustic improvisation, she transforms syncopation and dissonance into bold avant-garde anthems for collective struggle and social movements.

Next Friday, 9 October, during An Interplanetary Night at Bimhui, we’ll host the audiovisual live set Argument with Reality by drummer Gerri Jäger 🥁

With this performance, he ventures into a new direction. His solo project for drums and electronics is now expanded with live visuals created in collaboration with filmmaker Alek Riquelme. It combines self-made and collected video material, and explores themes such as addiction, (non)politics, parenthood and nature. Here Gerri remains grounded in his own expressive language: mixing genres to create a dynamic and unpredictable experience that shifts between power/fragility, minimalism/chaos and boredom/rapture.

This weekend, we split between two awesome festivals 🎷 SITP has the honor to curate a stage at the Orange Jazz Days in TivoliVredenburg!

On Saturday we take over Club Nine with many friends: we start with Brigadera, the duo of gabi and Beatrice Sberna, then continue with Vera Morais' vocals and flute ensemble Eupnea, and the eclectic quartet The Ambush Party (Natalio Sued on sax, Harald Austbø on cello, Oscar Jan Hoogland on piano and Marcos Baggiani on drums).

To close the evening in perfect SITP style, there will be a special improv-estafette… you're in for a treat!

This weekend, SITP jumps on the ride of the extraordinary multidisciplinary festival Murf/Murw, inviting some fantastic acts.

Presenting a new project taking shape this very week: on Friday, drummer Frank Rosaly brings together an exceptional quartet with woodwind player Rob Frye (Bitchin Bajas, Flux Bikes), guitarist Jeff Parker (Tortoise, Brian Blade), and multi-instrumentalist Ibelisse Guardia Ferragutti (MESTIZX, Awichas).

Led by Nantes-based Australian drummer and percussionist Will Guthrie: on Saturday, the eight musicians of Ensemble Nist-Nah perform with an impressive collection of gongs, bells, singing bowls, and tuned percussion.

We’re also joining forces with our friends from the Orbits collective to host performances by three projects on Sunday:
- Siebren Smink (electric guitar)
- ⁠Vera Morais (voice) & Hristo Goleminov (no-input mixer)
- ⁠Aviv Noam (alto/baritone sax) / Seb Overell (double bass) / Guy Salamon (drums)

Two amazing acts share one journey for the third edition of Interlinie: a compact concert tour aimed at cross-pollinating improvisation, experimental music and jazz.

The project is a unique collaboration with the aim of connecting and strengthening the artistic dialogue between the scenes, as well as between the like-minded venues and organisations working in this field.

For the third edition, taking place in December 2026, two groups will travel and perform across the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany — sometimes together, and on some nights separately, with Ola Tunji joining in Ghent and Bruges. Final stop → 13 December at our dear BIMHUIS!

This year’s groups are the mighty MOTHER TONGUE (Frank Rosaly / Mola Sylla / Oscar J Holland) and AS YET UNTITLED, a new project founded by Bex Burch, performing with Esther Coorevits, Stan Maris and James McClure.

On Friday 9 October, An Interplanetary Night returns to Bimhuis with Czajka & Puchacz, the project of pianist Kaja Draksler and drummer Szymon Gasiorek. Both artists explore the outer limits of their instruments through improvisations. The duo debuted with predominantly acoustic album Bivališča, and followed up shortly after with the retro-avant-pop single Entschuldigung under the name Kiebitz & Uhu. This tension is also present on their recent album Flapping, which moves between free improvisation and experimental songwriting.
