MARC AGORA #1 | INTRODUCING THE SPEAKERS

Prepare to be captivated by Lucia Fernandez Santoro, a trained dancer and performer from Argentina/France. With a background in dance, Lucia's artistry breaks boundaries, reshaping performance norms and captivating audiences in fresh, innovative ways. Holding a BA in Dance from ArtEZ (NL), Lucia quickly delved into collaborative ventures across artistic disciplines.

Her journey led her to an MFA program at Sandberg Instituut, where she not only honed her dance skills but also cultivated a writing practice encompassing poetry, narrative fiction, and bold performative installations. Lucia's artistic repertoire features pseudo-sci-fi short stories, challenging contemporary norms and weaving them into imaginative constellations of new ways of life and love.

Beyond her artistic pursuits, Lucia wears multiple hats as a dance critic, dramaturge, and performer. She advocates for improved working conditions in the performing arts through her reviews and commentary pieces. Lucia is also a vital presence in Amsterdam's nightlife, contributing as a door host, artist handler, and producer.

Her recent accomplishment includes a self-standing performative installation at Q21 in MuseumsQuartier, Vienna. Currently, Lucia is a pivotal member of the core team launching CLUB RAUM, overseeing the Art programme.

Lucia Fernandez Santoro explores multifaceted artistic conceptions, emphasizing horizontal exchanges and non-hierarchical creative processes. Her diverse roles inform and amplify each other, culminating in a critical and comprehensive artistic voice.

Join us on October 4th at LOLA Lieven for an evening with Lucia Fernandez Santoro, a promise of inspiration and boundary-pushing creativity.

MARC AGORA #1 | INTRODUCING THE SPEAKERS

We are happy to introduce Michele Bazzoli (IT, 1996), Italian visual artist based in Amsterdam, who will be joining us at AGORA. With a master’s degree in Visual Arts & Ecology Futures, Michele's work delves deeply into the intricate relationship between humanity and nature, offering a profound visual language to navigate ecological crises and environmental shifts.

His sculptures, videos, and installations serve as a thought-provoking exploration of the convergence of body and environment, growth and decay. Michele's work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions worldwide.

In 2023, he earned the ARTeCHÓ fellowship and currently is an artist-in-residence at Destination Unknown in Roermond (NL), where on September 28 he will show his first video work!

Join us on October 4th at LOLA Lieven for an evening of insightful presentations and artistic discourse, where Michele will talk us about his recent experience working with video and his soon-to-be-published book!

Last three days to apply to our open call "Mythologies of Certainty".

During our second edition we will explore together with 4 selected artists the construction of the various mythologies that surround the concept of certainty. Why is this construct so endemic to our human nature? What are the ways in which we ritualize certainty in our age of hyper-narratives, geopolitical shifts, and 24/7 neoliberal regimes?

What do you need to apply:
-CV
-Application video (around 3 min, phone quality accepted), outlining your specific interest in participating in MARC’s activities, why you are interested in the topic and how your participation in the project will affect your practice
-Portfolio

Check out the complete call on our website and apply: https://bit.ly/MARC2_opencall

MARC #2 | OPEN CALL: Mythologies of Certainty

We are happy to launch our new open call and the new topic of our upcoming edition: 'Mythologies of Certainty'.

During MARC #2 we venture into a creative search around the notion of certainty, and its performative and mytho-political aspects. We welcome researchers, artists, writers, curators, thinkers, musicians, designers, and savvy creatives to join us in our new adventure!

The application deadline is May 16th, more info via: https://bit.ly/MARC2_opencall

NEW TEAM MEMBER | ANDREA KNEZOVIC

We’re very excited to introduce to you our new team member: Andrea Knezović!

Andrea is a visual artist, researcher, cultural programmer and educator with a MARes in Artistic Research from the University of Amsterdam and a BA from the AVA-Academy of Visual Arts Ljubljana. Her artistic practice plays with semiotics and dialectics of value by examining — through poetic gesturing — correlations between institutional and identity politics. Knezović’s discursive research interests center around topics of liminality, value production, future mythologies of the cultural institutional practices and consequently their strategies of institutional care. Her practice can be understood as a close reading of subversive, liminal landscapes in which the individual negotiates the ideological mechanisms of cognitive capitalism within wider socio-political scopes. She investigates various identity protocols by probing different systems of self-care, strategies of re-imagining institutional mythologies and futures of collective psycho-cultural health. She uses speculative fiction as a forensic method to excavate and design research narratives.
Knezović is a board member of Salwa Foundation. She contributed to various discursive journals including MIT - Thresholds Journal, Lish Journal, University of Amsterdam Simulacrum Jurnal- Tijdschrift voor kunst en cultuur and Biennale of Young Artists of Europe and Mediterranean (Young Slovenian Artists). Her artwork has been exhibited in museums and galleries across the world and is part of the SCCA-DIVA Archive collection. In 2013 and 2015, she was nominated for the Essl Art Award.

Then we will open up the floor to discuss together with the audience about collectives as a form of creative entity, what are the strengths of creating together, but also what are the challenges that we face.

More details to be announced soon!
