I used to love to sing but I stopped performing at 15, feeling afraid to continue as I didn't want to "step on the toes" of my best friend at the time who had a beautiful voice and was pursuing a career as a singer.
In summer 2021, I met James Fish at the Palace Residency and we hit it off. He was looking for a vocalist and I was interested in singing again. In that first practice session we spoke for most of it about our lives, being mixed kids of the African diaspora and our love of electronic music. We then practiced for 15 mins and did a short performance at the residency. Two weeks later, James invited me to do this rooftop video shoot.
It was an organic and flowing process. A gorgeous collaboration and I am really happy to be able to share it with y'all ❤
All the poetry by yours truly, apart from a verse from Aaliyah's Try Again (one of my fav tunes of the 90's).
I hope you enjoy ❤

I had a glorious time at Fusion festival. This pic is my post set recovery face - tired yet grateful for all the glorious b***y shaking and beings that came through to embrace the bass during my set at Querfeld. Thank you!✨💚✨
I’ll upload my set to soundcloud in the coming weeks 🐢
I know it can feel strange at times to prioritise dance and pleasure when we face so much uncertainty and deep challenges as a global community… However, I trust that intentional pleasure is essential to give us the energy to continue sowing the seeds of change, beauty and connection that will help us navigate this moment and the times ahead.
Dancing and DJing give me a huge amount of pleasure - allowing me to feel connected to my body, connected to those around me and in tune with the abundance of life. I’m grateful that I have the opportunity to do plenty of dancing and DJing this summer 🎉💚💫
Thank you to all the crews who make Fusion happen! I left feeling inspired by the collaboration, creativity, care and solidarity at play to make it all happen. A true exercise in world building 🌱🌞🍃
I DJ next this Friday from 17 - 18 with the next edition of my radio show bass incarnate.

Emergent Bass- New project!
As a teenager, electronic music, raves and sweaty dance floors literally saved my life when other forms of support were not available.
Electronic music has given me so much, I’m grateful to be offering something that will hopefully help other , ***r and POC folks to reconnect with the club space as part of our lineages.
I’m the creative director of Emergent Bass (Emergent Bass Berlin), an event series in Berlin that celebrates the Afro-diaspora influence in electronic music and underground club culture. Our events provide a platform for African heritage and migrant DJs who honour the roots of these genres and the generative or power of bass frequencies. Each event will feature a panel discussion about the Black & POC influence in the 90’s Berlin electronic music scene and other related topics about representation, curated by Sarah Farina.
Despite Berlin being one of the dance music capitals of the world, many do not know the roots of this music. We are aiming to shift that by rooting the project and conversations in German as so many conversations about race/representation are in English. Our social media posts are bi-lingual: swipe for English 😉
This project has been grown in close collaboration with Karo of Mensch Meier, Sarah Farina as well as the Archiv der Jugendkulturen. We have an amazing team and I’m grateful for all the energy that has been given to this so far.
All being well, we will have three open air events this summer in . Please follow Emergent Bass Berlin for updates.
I'm going to give myself the summer to relax and move so the final part of my residency at Refuge Worldwide will take place from September - November.

Happy Saturday y'all,
Hope you are doing well as can be.
Music is one of the great joys of my life. I am blessed to have been born into a family that considers music to be a spiritual and necessary component of a good life. My parents gave me a thorough musical education exposing me to jazz, west african music, psychedelic rock, soul, disco, blues, R & B, early electronica and trip hop. In many ways my journey with dance has been about my body being in conversation with music. It's always the starting point for me. In much of my art making too.
I am fascinated by the healing potential of bass frequencies and polyrhythms. I notice that low end frequencies and layered percussion can facilitate me going into dance based trance states quite easily. A lot of my embodiment research and self experimentation began in the context of raves and clubs where there were big subwoofers. I would often put earplugs in and stand as close to the stacks as possible, allowing the bass to help me shed energy and grief that no longer needed to be carried in my body. I am truly a devotee to the power of bass weight.
It gives me great pleasure to be focusing on music more and curating journeys that allow folks to take sonic adventures with me. I have been given a 6 month radio residency with Refuge Worldwide offering a monthly show called Bass Incarnate. The first episode is Wednesday March 31st. Hope to catch you on the digital airwaves xx

Bass incarnate, hosted by AfroOankali, celebrates bass music rooted in the African Diaspora alongside embodied mindfulness practices. Each show is a journey through genres including Bailie, Hip Hop, Footwork, Deep House, Afro Bass, Garage and 2 step with the intention to get you dancing. Bass incarnate begins with a downtempo embodiment practice, then builds up the polyrhythmic intensity before ending with some downtempo tracks to ground out.

Hiii folks! I have exciting news to share \( • ◡ • )/
Not too long ago I was asked by AfroOankali & punani to help curate the panels and workshops for their new interdisciplinary event series Emergent Bass Berlin at Mensch Meier in cooperation with Archiv der Jugendkulturen.
Our first event will be held next week on Sat, 17th of July & will be taking place outside! And Daniel from „Archives of youth cultures“ and I curated the panel „Past, Present, Future: Wie Schwarze Musikkultur die Berliner Clubkultur geprägt hat“. As u can guess, this panel will be in German. I think it’s so important to make especially room for the Black german perspectives on the past, present and future when it comes to club culture and beyond.
Our awesome guests will be MINCO (DJ), Michael Mueller (Promoter & Booker), Kalle Kuts (DJ & Music Activist) and our host will be the wonderful singer, sonwriter & activist MALONDA.
Of course we’ll also have music: Juba Music, BFAN, Freak de l'Afrique & myself will be djing and La By'le will perform live!
Click here for the event details (Covid rules etc.) ➔ EMERGENT BASS #1 & please spread the word!
I’m feeling very grateful to be part of this & can’t wait to see you there ~( ̄‿ ̄~)

How can nightlife can be designed in harmony with the earth’s finite resources? What would really be necessary to create a club experience that takes the climate and fragility of all of us into account? The second episode of our podcast "Politics of the Dance Floor" curated by Transmission_net aka Sarah Farina and Kerstin Meißner addresses sustainability from the angle of rave and resistance. One of the guests is Camille Barton aka AfroOankali, artist, writer and somatic educator, who has been working on the intersections of wellness, drug policy and transformative justice.
