Later this week Berlin based artist Claire Vivianne Sobottke claireviviannesobottke is starting her Life Long Burning (LLB) exchange residency at Bau Oost! BAU Welcome Claire!

The other way around, Amsterdam based interdisciplinary artist Yoko Haveman .haveman got the opportunity to work at Uferstudios für zeitgenössischen Tanz Berlin these last two weeks.

Claire Vivianne Sobottke (*1982, D/F) engages choreography, performance, dance, and music: she studied acting at the Universität der Künste Berlin and choreography at DAS Amsterdam.

She installs her work in both theatre and museum contexts. Claire conceives of her work as a site of resistance and undoing, where established norms of seeing and thinking about bodies can be unsettled and reimagined. Claire is a self trained vocalist and continuously explores diverse vocal techniques.

About the Research
Her work explores the feminist potential of transformation and otherness through relationships with the more-than-human, the grotesque, and the monstrous — destabilizing human-imposed hierarchies and the violent discourses that uphold categories such as alive/dead, animal/human, and man/woman.

This led her to hunting as the central focus of her research project Étude de Chasse (WT) — a choreographic and musical investigation into the history and practice of hunting. She approaches the hunt as a highly ritualized act of killing, asking what it reveals about power, domination, and the connections between the heroization of killing, the eroticization of the hunter, and patriarchal violence.

Life Long Burning is a network of European institutions which are dedicated to contemporary dance and performance. They share knowledge and support the development of young makers on an international level.

ON residency
the thing, the second & the fist, unfolds as an ongoing practice of staging a duet, not only with another human figure, but with something else; a fiction, a reggaeton, a sent n**e, an impossible text and to work on the things between, as a way to loosen the immediacy between meaning and what is being seen. the what that would emerge after working through the how within the practice of the residency,

dancing through a crisis of fantasy, where the consumption of images exceeds their production, and what is seen becomes somewhat pasteurised, the work looks for openings, in-betweens, where the choreographic can displace itself and embody - out of? - the muchness.
