BLACK LIVES MATTER ✊🏿✊🏾✊🏽✊🏼
This is a portrait in honor of George Floyd, local hero and victim of racism that has deep roots in a society that is failing minorities. He has become the new face (one of too many) of this fight against racism. I hope I have been able to capture him as most of us see him today. All the names written behind him are MINORS who unfortunately had the same fate. We demand JUSTICE now.

To be honest, there are no words that describe how I feel about what has been happening to people of color. That is something I cannot say anymore. Too many times have I kept my mouth shut about issues such as racism and discrimination. But I’m fed up and I realize that this has been passive behavior towards the situation. Not "being" racist is not enough anymore. Most people don't even realize what they are saying, that's how deep rooted this issue is. We have to confront them about it.

I feel sadness, I feel anger, I feel disgusted, I feel shame. A lot of shame, that these things still have to happen to people of color and other minorities such as the LGBT community.

It’s time to act up! Even if you feel you cannot make a difference I will link a few websites where you can sign petitions and donate money to bail out protesters that have been arrested.

-“Me and White Supremacy: Combat, Racism, Change the World and Become a Good Ancestor” by Layla Saad & Robin DiAngelo (literature)

This artwork, to me personally, is a reflection of the times we live in. With influences from the outside, we have started to believe that everything we do is never good enough. We always strive for more, get richer, buy more, want more. Idolizing people who are living the "life". When will it ever be enough?

And it's not just the people around me, even myself sometimes gets into that mood of, get rich or die trying. Heck, maybe this artwork is a reflection of myself.

But don't forget nothing will come easy. It takes work, sacrifice and perseverance.
