While Nicola Baratto & Yiannis Mouravas’ site-specific bench, Lines of Flight (2026) is on view at the gallery, we wanted to take a moment to share a bit about their artistic practice.
At the core of Baratto and Mouravas’ collaborative practice is Archaeodreaming, a concept they have developed to describe an experimental mode of research that explores the fluidity of history through the intersections of archaeology, mythology, and dreaming. Blending surreal and mythical narratives with a strong emphasis on materiality and collectivity, their work reimagines how stories are constructed, remembered, and transformed.
The two artists met while studying at the Sandberg Instituut in Amsterdam and have collaborated ever since. Archaeodreaming forms the foundation of their practice: an ongoing investigation into the material traces of dreams and the ways they are documented. By forging connections between archaic and contemporary cultures, they create poetic, nonlinear narratives that weave together fieldwork, archival research, and unconscious experience. Their work examines historical artefacts associated with dreaming alongside practices of dream incubation, asking whether dreams can still function as a means of reshaping individual and collective socio-political realities. These questions materialize in mixed-media installations that bring together sculpture, film, artist books, and other material interventions.
