I found an abandoned painting from a while ago; it’s a copy of a Dirk Filarski painting I made in an art class about complementary colours. Purple and orange in this case. What was I going to do with it, finish it and hang it up? I’d never do that, it was not my own. But I liked the colours very much and I like recycling so I made a little sketchbook from this big sheet. The soil became the sky, I’ll add mark making as a last layer. It’s funny how I enjoy making these sketchbooks so much, I even prefer making them than filling them up.

Voor degenen die ons gisteren kwamen opzoeken op de Open Ateliersdag in : dank jullie wel voor je komst, je gezelligheid en de leuke gesprekjes.
Femke van was zo lief om haar atelier met mij te delen en dat leverde een gezellige dag op. We zijn geïnteresseerd in dezelfde kunstenaars en technieken maar hebben elk ons eigen kleurpalet en daarin onderscheiden we ons. En wie weet gaan we samen wat ontwikkelen….

I am over the moon with the printed fabric I designed during the workshop Surface Design last month with .bertus
The colours are slightly different and I see a few flaws in the design, but I am very happy with the result. I think I’ll make a summer blouse with it.
I also would love to take surface design a serious go. Any tips regarding that?

I keep and reuse everything from cardbosrd boxes to failed prints and art pieces. For the backing of these gelli prints I reused sturdy mail enveloppes and cut up packaging.
Would you like to have a look at these prints? They can be admired closely at the Opes Studios at on 29th of June. You’re welcome to come by and have a chat with me and lots of other artists.

A few of my favorite Messy May pages. I am so sorry the challenge is over, I have been enjoying it very much! I love learning new techniques and exploring new possibilities as well@as using up old scraps and bits.

I’ve been werking on this piece today, trying to get it to completion for a big group show at the end of August. She needs just a few tweeks before I call her finished and I like where it’s going. The drop shadow made a big improvement.

Messy May - Day 12 Terrain.
I had fun making this abstract landscape. I made it fairly quickly as to prevent overthinking and it has lots of layering and mark making. The alien aspect was a bit lost in me, but I like the doomy atmosphere of the spread.
