In Art, Media & Design
Through arts, creativity and innovation, we foster individual creative potential. Through dialogue and debate we build a vibrant sense of community. We develop knowledge frameworks to help us understand our entanglement with the world around us.
The Masters Institute takes a leading role in its contribution to the cultural and creative industries sector, nationally and internationally. We work collaboratively and creatively with industry, communities and business, to facilitate innovative projects that contribute directly to novel applications in the specialist field of Animation and its wider relevance in design, gaming and interactive media.
Drawing on the expertise of teaching staff and the Professors at the Avans University Center of Applied Research for Art, Design and Technology (Caradt), our programme content advocates the greater embedment of artistic practices in society and encompasses themes such as: De-colonising the Art School and Migrant aesthetics (politics of citizenship); Heterodox identity Gender; Inequality (Indebtedness); Gentrification (Creative Industries); Ecological Sustainability (Anthropocene). Students integrate process orientated studio work in relation to their own artistic practice with the acquisition of theoretical principles and the development of research methods relevant to innovatory studio practice. Students gain access to the formidable expertise, resources and the networks of our coalition partners V2_Lab for Unstable Media Rotterdam, Impakt Festival Utrecht, JADS (Jheronimus Academy of Data Science) Den Bosch, Playgrounds Festival, Breda Photo, NoordBrabants Museum Den Bosch, Eye Research Lab Amsterdam).
