Happy Mother's Day! 🤰 How is Nicaragua looking after moms? 📅 Join us to hear the featured speakers describe special programs that Nicaragua has put in place, such as the casas maternas for women about to give birth, to protect and enhance the health of mothers and their children. They will also compare health outcomes in Nicaragua and other nations, particularly the US.

Becca Renk, originally from Idaho, has lived and worked in Nicaragua for 25 years and directs a health clinic in Ciudad Sandino outside of Managua.

Magda Lanuza, the program manager of Casa Arlen Siu, a casa materna in El Sauce, Department of Leon, will present research on programs across Nicaragua.

Jameela Alexander, an active organizer in BAP & AAPRP from Baltimore, Maryland, visited Nicaragua for the first time in March as a member of the "Power & Protagonism: Women in Nicaragua" delegation. She is a worker/doula who previously studied village midwifery in Ecuador.

📢 see our very own Sarah this Sunday! Or register to get the recording & watch later: 👉 REGISTER:  bit.ly/NicaApril13.

📆 Join Sarah Junkin Woodard for this 60-minute webinar on April 13, as she shares a slideshow and insights from Ciudad Sandino, Nicaragua, followed by responses to your questions and comments.  She will describe, in her words, "the amazing realities developing within Nicaragua where both the social and political will are focused on helping the majority of the population, the poorest of the poor."

Sarah represents the work of the Jubilee House Community, a U.S. nonprofit she helped form in 1979.  Working with and on behalf of the poor in North Carolina for the first decade, she has spent the last 31 years in Nicaragua, with the project name Center for Development in Central America.  The JHC-CDCA continues to respond to local needs, helping the poor accomplish what they see as their priorities, particularly in the areas of sustainable economic development, organic agriculture, health care, and education.

This April 13 webinar is in conjunction with Sarah's tour of the United States from February 28 to May 13.  Please also attend an event in person if she's in your area.  Here is the tour itinerary, which is being continually updated.  Contact  [email protected], 704-993-6531, if you would like to set up a speaking engagement, organize your own webinar with her, or do an online or radio interview.

As part of her job, Minister for Women Lucien Garcia does home visits to talk to women heads of household about issues they are facing and to confront attitudes of machismo in the home. She considers that raising boys to respect women is one of the pillars of eradicating machismo.

Dr. Judith Garcia is Director of the Center for Attention to Women in Managua, which today celebrates its 2nd anniversary. The Center does gynecology and obstetrics, mammograms, PAPs, follow up for abnormal PAPs, internal medicine, nutrition, and psychology. Any woman can walk in the door and be seen the same day. Our Story

The historical Casa Benjamin Linder is home to a unique collection of murals of the life of U.S. solidarity worker Ben Linder and Nicaraguan revolutionary art. We are renovating Casa Ben Linder into a guest house and cafe to make the house self-sustainable and to make possible much needed repairs to the murals. Stay in the heart of Managua at the Casa - see photos and pricing at https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/22097797 We also have meeting and event space available for rent at low cost to groups for events, movie showings, workshops and charlas.

While the house is not currently open for regular hours, we are offering free tours of the murals to visitors and delegations. Call 7832-0230 to arrange times.
