BRACED Commission Technical Committee Meeting Strengthens Regional Collaboration on Culture and Creative Economy

Benin City, Edo State August 22, 2026: The Bayelsa State Ministry of Culture participated in the BRACED Commission Technical Committee Meeting held in Benin City, Edo State, from August 19 to 22, 2026, with Dr. John Suofe, Director, Department of Culture and Festivals, representing the Ministry as a delegate.

The meeting, themed “Strengthening Collaboration for Sustainable Development in the South-South,” brought together representatives of the six BRACED states Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Edo and Delta States to deepen regional cooperation and promote sustainable development across the South-South region.

A major focus of the technical committee meeting was the fine-tuning of the BRACED Commission’s Policy Framework on Regional Arts, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy. The framework, which had earlier been drafted in 2024 and 2025, is designed to provide a stronger platform for collaboration among member states in developing the region’s cultural assets, tourism potential and creative industries.

The meeting attracted key stakeholders from across the participating states, including the Honourable Commissioner for Arts, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Edo State; the Head of the Edo State Civil Service; the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Arts, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Edo State; the Director-General of Arts, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy; the Director of Arts and Culture, as well as representatives of the BRACED Commission.

Representing the Bayelsa State Ministry of Culture, Dr. John Suofe contributed to the technical deliberations and discussions aimed at strengthening the policy framework and ensuring that the cultural and creative economy of the South-South region receives greater attention through coordinated regional action.

The engagement provided an opportunity for participating states to share ideas, strengthen professional relationships and explore new avenues for collaboration in the areas of arts, culture, tourism and the creative economy.

Speaking on the experience, Dr. Suofe described the meeting as a wonderful and worthwhile experience, noting that it provided an opportunity to meet new people, build new relationships and gain fresh perspectives. He also commended the people of Edo State for their warm hospitality.

The participation of the Bayelsa State Ministry of Culture in the BRACED Commission meeting further demonstrates the State’s commitment to regional cultural cooperation, sustainable development and the promotion of the creative economy across the South-South region.

The Ebedeibiri Federated Community came alive today as the people gathered in a grand reception to honour and celebrate the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency, Pastor Peter Pereotubo Akpe, Ph.D.

The grand reception, held at the Ebedeibiri Community Primary School Field, Ebedeibiri, Bayelsa State, was a colourful celebration of leadership, service, community, and the enduring bond between the Deputy Governor and his people.

Representing the Ministry of Culture at the historic celebration was the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Culture, Madam Agnes Oloye, who joined other dignitaries and community leaders to celebrate the Deputy Governor and share in the joy of the occasion.

Also among the distinguished dignitaries at the event was the Honourable Commissioner for Culture, Hon. Keku Godpower, who joined His Excellency and the people of Ebedeibiri Federated Community in celebrating the remarkable occasion.

Permanent Secretary Represents Commissioner at Contemporary and Traditional Arts Exhibition 2026

The Permanent Secretary, Bayelsa State Ministry of Culture, Madam Oloye Agnes, on behalf of the Honourable Commissioner for Culture, Hon. Keku Godpower, graced the Contemporary and Traditional Arts Exhibition 2026, organized by the Bayelsa State Council for Arts and Culture under the leadership of the Acting Director, Mrs. Blessing Ayibaduba (MINM).

The exhibition, held on Wednesday, 6th August, 2026, was themed “Prosperity in the Arts”, bringing together artists, cultural stakeholders, students, art enthusiasts and members of the public to celebrate the creativity, innovation and rich cultural heritage of Bayelsa State.

Representing the Honourable Commissioner, the Permanent Secretary commended the Bayelsa State Council for Arts and Culture for sustaining initiatives that promote artistic excellence and preserve the state’s cultural identity. She emphasized that the Bayelsa State Government remains committed to creating an enabling environment where arts and culture can flourish as viable tools for economic growth, youth empowerment and tourism development.

She noted that the theme, “Prosperity in the Arts,” reflects the immense potential of the creative industry to generate employment, inspire innovation and contribute significantly to the socio-economic advancement of the state. She encouraged artists to continue using their talents to tell the Bayelsa story while embracing creativity as a pathway to prosperity.

The Acting Director of the Bayelsa State Council for Arts and Culture, Mrs. Blessing Ayibaduba (MINM), appreciated the Ministry of Culture for its unwavering support and reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to discovering, nurturing and promoting artistic talents across the state through exhibitions and other cultural initiatives.

The event featured inspiring artistic presentations, exhibition of contemporary and traditional artworks, interactive sessions with artists and stakeholders, as well as performances that showcased the richness and diversity of Bayelsa’s cultural heritage.

The exhibition further reinforced the government’s resolve to position Bayelsa as a leading destination for arts, culture and the creative economy in Nigeria.

HONOURABLE COMMISSIONER FOR CULTURE REPRESENTS BAYELSA DEPUTY GOVERNOR AT 56TH ANYAMA FE-ATEI OGE CULTURAL FESTIVAL 2026

The Honourable Commissioner for Culture, Bayelsa State, Hon.Keku Godpower, today represented the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency, Pastor Peter Pereotubo Akpe, Ph.D., at the 56th Edition of the Anyama Fe-Atei Oge Cultural Festival 2026, during the Day 3 activities held in Anyama Community, Tarakiri Clan of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

The festival, one of the most celebrated cultural events in Anyama Ijaw Community, Tarakiri Kingdom, brought together sons and daughters of the community, traditional rulers, government officials, stakeholders, and visitors in a colourful display of culture, unity, and community development.

On arrival, the Honourable Commissioner and his entourage were warmly received by Hon. Doodei Week, Ph.D., Technical Adviser to the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), who welcomed the delegation and conducted them on an inspection tour of the newly completed state-of-the-art sports facility constructed by the NDDC in the community.

The Commissioner described the facility as a strategic investment that will enhance youth development, promote sporting excellence, and provide opportunities for talent discovery while contributing to the socio-economic growth of the area.

A major highlight of the day's programme was the Sports for All Community Outreach on Disability, an initiative designed to promote inclusion, equal participation, and empowerment for persons with disabilities. The outreach also featured the participation of Queen Soye Karibi-George, Miss World Nigeria, whose presence further amplified the message of hope, equality, and social inclusion.

Speaking on behalf of the Deputy Governor, the Honourable Commissioner commended the organisers of the festival for successfully integrating cultural preservation with sports development and community empowerment. He noted that such initiatives strengthen the bonds of unity among the people while preserving the rich cultural heritage of the Tarakiri Clan for future generations.

He also expressed appreciation to Hon. Doodei Week, Ph.D., for the warm reception and hospitality extended to the state's delegation, while applauding the Niger Delta Development Commission for delivering impactful projects that directly benefit local communities.

The 56th Anyama Fe-Atei Oge Cultural Festival continues to showcase the rich traditions, resilience, and aspirations of the people of Anyama, reaffirming the importance of culture as a catalyst for sustainable development and social cohesion in Bayelsa State.
