Today, we celebrate two remarkable milestones Nigeria’s Independence Day and the 30th Anniversary of the creation of Bayelsa State.

As a nation, we honour our journey of unity, resilience and progress, while looking forward to a brighter and more prosperous Nigeria.

For Bayelsa State, 30 years is a remarkable journey of growth, sacrifice, achievements and the preservation of our rich cultural heritage. As the Glory of All Lands, we celebrate the diverse traditions, languages, festivals and cultural expressions that continue to define our identity and unite our people.

On this special occasion, I extend my warmest goodwill to the Government and good people of Bayelsa State and Nigerians at home and in the diaspora.

May Nigeria continue to grow in peace, unity and prosperity, and may Bayelsa State continue to rise to greater heights.

BAYELSA@30: CULTURAL CARNIVAL, STREET RALLY & BOAT REGATTA

Today, as part of activities marking the Bayelsa State at 30 celebration, we witnessed a spectacular display of our rich cultural heritage through the FLOATS, STREET RALLY, CULTURAL CARNIVAL and BOAT REGATTA, from Igbogene to the Oxbow Lake Pavilion.

I was delighted to join the procession from Igbogene through the streets of Yenagoa to Oxbow Lake, as the Cultural Sub-Committee successfully delivered on its mandate of coordinating the cultural activities for this historic celebration.

As the Honourable Commissioner for Culture, I sincerely appreciate all our Local Government Council Chairmen and their people for their impressive participation, colourful cultural displays and commitment to making today’s celebration memorable. Your presence and contributions truly demonstrated the unity and cultural diversity of Bayelsa State.

I also commend the Cultural Sub-Committee, ably led by the Leader of the House, Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Monday Bubou-Obolo, and all members of the committee for their dedication, teamwork and tireless efforts in ensuring the success of today’s cultural activities.

Special appreciation goes to His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri, Governor of Bayelsa State, and His Excellency, Hon. Pst. Peter P. Akpe, Deputy Governor, for their continued support and confidence in the committee and the Ministry of Culture.

I equally commend the Bayelsa State Council for Arts and Culture, under the leadership of the Director, Mrs. Blessing Ayibaina Duba, for the effective coordination of the Council, its staff and cultural troupes. Their outstanding performances, discipline and professionalism added colour, energy and excitement to today’s celebration.

Today’s procession was more than a carnival; it was a celebration of who we are as a people our culture, traditions, creativity, unity and collective identity.

From Igbogene to Oxbow Lake, Bayelsa’s cultural heritage was proudly on display.

Today, I joined the Cultural Sub-Committee of the Bayelsa State 30th Anniversary Celebration Committee for a final inspection of preparations ahead of tomorrow, Tuesday, 29th September 2026, FLOATS/STREET RALLY/CULTURAL CARNIVAL/BOAT REGATTA, from Igbogene to the Oxbow Lake.

I was impressed by the level of preparation and the quality of work put into the float construction and the arrangements for the Boat Regatta. The displays are a beautiful reflection of the rich cultural identity, heritage and creativity of our dear Bayelsa State.

I sincerely commend the Acting Director, Bayelsa State Council for Arts and Culture, Mrs. Blessing Ayibaduba, and the Immediate Past Acting Director, Mr. Ebi Andrew Kirifagha, alongside their dedicated teams, for the remarkable work done so far. Your commitment and attention to detail are worthy of commendation.

I also appreciate the Cultural Sub-Committee, ably led by the Majority Leader of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, who serves as Chairman of the Committee, for the leadership, coordination and collective efforts towards making the Bayelsa@30 celebration memorable.

Above all, I express my profound appreciation to His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri, Governor of Bayelsa State, and His Excellency, Hon. Pst. Peter P. Akpe, Deputy Governor, for their vision, support and commitment to celebrating the rich cultural heritage and identity of Bayelsa State.

Tomorrow, we celebrate 30 years of Bayelsa’s journey, resilience, culture, heritage and unity.

BAYELSA@30: CULTURAL SUB-COMMITTEE INSPECTS ONGOING CLEAN-UP AT OXBOW LAKE PAVILION

As part of preparations towards the grand celebration of Bayelsa State at 30, I joined other members of the Cultural Sub-Committee of the Bayelsa State 30th Anniversary Celebration Committee on an inspection visit to the Oxbow Lake Pavilion, where ongoing clean-up and preparatory works are being carried out ahead of the anniversary celebrations.

The visit was led by the Chairman of the Cultural Sub-Committee, Rt. Hon. Monday Bubou-Obolo Leader of the House, Bayela State House of Assembly,as we assessed the level of work being done and the general readiness of the venue for the historic celebration.

As a member of the Cultural Sub-Committee, I am deeply honoured to contribute to this important assignment. Our mandate goes beyond celebration; it is about showcasing the rich cultural heritage, traditions and identity of Bayelsa State while creating a memorable experience that reflects our history, resilience and collective pride.

I appreciate His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri, Governor of Bayelsa State, and His Excellency, Dr. Peter Pereotubo Akpe, Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, for the confidence reposed in the committee.

Together, we will celebrate our past, showcase our present and inspire our future.

At the early hours of his morning, I, alongside the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Culture, Bayelsa State, Madam Agnes Oloye, joined the Acting Director of the Bayelsa State Heritage Museum and Monuments Mr. Ayerite Mangete to celebrate International Museum Day 2026 during today’s Prosperity Walk, led by His Excellency, the Deputy Governor,of our dear State Hon.Pst. Peter P. Akpe.

International Museum Day provides us with an opportunity to reflect on the invaluable role museums play in preserving our history, culture, traditions, artefacts and collective identity for present and future generations.

As a Ministry, we remain committed to strengthening our museums and heritage institutions as centres of cultural preservation, education, tourism and historical documentation. Our heritage is our identity, and protecting it is a responsibility we must all embrace.

I sincerely commend the Acting Director Mr. Ayerite Mangete of the Bayelsa State Heritage Museum and Monuments for the commitment, dedication and efforts toward promoting and preserving the rich cultural heritage of Bayelsa State.

Together, we will continue to preserve our past, celebrate our present and inspire the future.
