Former President Goodluck Jonathan Wins 2025 Sunhak Peace Prize

Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has been awarded the prestigious 2025 Founder's Sunhak Peace Prize for his tireless efforts in promoting peace and democracy, particularly through his leadership in the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation, West African Elders Forum, and International Summit Council for Peace.¹

Award Ceremony

The award ceremony took place on April 11, 2025, at the Crystal Ballroom of Lotte Hotel World in Seoul, South Korea, attended by over 750 international guests, including global leaders and former heads of state. Jonathan was recognized alongside other distinguished laureates for their contributions to global stability and human development.²

Other Awardees

Other winners of the 2025 Sunhak Peace Prize include:

Wanjira Mathai.q Recognized for her outstanding environmental leadership, notably through the AFR100 initiative and the Green Belt Movement.

Hugh Evans. Honored for his exceptional commitment to global citizenship through his work with Global Citizen.

Patrick Awuah Jr. Acknowledged for transforming African higher education through his leadership of Ashesi University in Ghana.

Reaction from President Tinubu

President Tinubu congratulated Jonathan on his win, praising his consistent advocacy for peace, harmony, and community development. Tinubu noted that Jonathan's award affirms his bold efforts in peacebuilding and promoting democracy in Africa and beyond.

Jonathan's Response

In his acceptance speech, Jonathan expressed gratitude to the Sunhak Peace Prize Foundation, Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, and his wife, Dame Patience Jonathan, for their love and support. He dedicated the award to every Nigerian who believes in the possibility of peace and to every African working selflessly for the progress and advancement of the continent.
