OF FREEDOM AND DEVELOPMENT Being the Text of the 2026 Democracy Day Speech by Governor Alex C. Otti, OFR, on Friday, June 12, 2026 1. The most appealing promise of democracy is the allowance for plurality of opinions, the freedom to interrogate ideas and the opportunity for periodic reflection. This day presents to us, members of the Nigerian community, a special invitation to evaluate our pace on the democratic track, interrogate assumption and estimate our measure of progress on 2 fronts, first, since the dawn of the Fourth Republic in May 1999 and more importantly, over the last 33 years following the annulment of the 1993 presidential election won by Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, GCFR....

After Rebecca Omokamo Godwin-Isaac reportedly endured 23 days confined inside her residence and another two days in EFCC custody, the Commission still attempted to keep her detained until October. The court refused, questioned whether the prosecution had become personal and raised the spectre of a witch-hunt. After 23 days of reported confinement inside her residence and two further days in EFCC custody, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission asked the court to revoke Rebecca Omokamo Godwin-Isaac’s bail and keep her detained until 26 October 2026....

JUST IN: Blessing CEO Granted N20m Bail Over Alleged N69m Fraud

Social media influencer and relationship therapist, Blessing Okoro, popularly known as Blessing CEO, has been granted bail by a Lagos State Special Offences Court in a case involving an alleged N69 million fraud. The court fixed her bail at N20 million and ordered that she provide two responsible sureties in like sum. Abia Govt advises residents to relocate from Uzuakoli gully erosion sites

Abia State government has urged residents of Amamba Uzuakoli in Bende LGA whose houses and lands were destroyed by gully erosion, to relocate from the affected areas. The Commissioner for Environment, Philemon Ogbonna, who gave the advise on Friday when he visited the community, said the affected areas are presently unsafe for habitation or farming. Ogbonna who arrived the community with the the Labour Party candidate for Bende Federal constituency, Chima Anyaso, expressed shock at the level of devastation in Amamba....

Abia Moves To Become South-East CNG Hub As Otti Endorses $13.1m Gas Investment

Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, has endorsed a proposed 13.1-million-dollar Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) project, saying it would accelerate industrialisation, expand clean energy infrastructure and position the state as a major manufacturing destination in Nigeria. The proposed project involves the construction of a 14.13 Million Standard Cubic Feet Per Day (MMSCFD) CNG mother station at Owaza in Ukwa West Local Government Area, a move expected to deepen gas utilisation, support industries and improve access to cleaner energy for transportation and manufacturing....

US Slaps Fresh 12.5% Tariff on Nigerian Exports

The United States has imposed a fresh 12.5 per cent tariff on products imported from Nigeria after determining that the country failed to establish and effectively enforce a ban on the importation of goods produced with forced labour. The new measure was announced by the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) in a notice issued on Thursday This follows a Section 301 investigation into the trade practices of 60 economies, including Nigeria....
