ANNUAL IHERIN FESTIVAL OF THE GREAT UGHELLI KINGDOM!!!

HRM, OVIE OF UGHELLI KINGDOM AND UGHELLI DESCENDANTS UNION (UDU) LED BY CHIEF SAMUEL AKPIMEGI JOINTLY MAKE THIS PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT AS A CALL TO ALL SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF UGHELLI KINGDOM THAT THE DATE FOR THE ANNUAL IHENRI FESTIVAL CELEBRATION HAS BEEN FIXED.

THE FEAST WILL COMMENCE HEAVILY ON SATURDAY, 27TH SEPTEMBER, 2025.

THE CELEBRATION ACTIVITIES WILL LAST FOR NINE AWESOME DAYS.

THROUGHOUT THE FESTIVAL PERIOD, IT IS EXPECTED THAT SUSTAINABLE PEACE, LOVE AND PROSPERITY WILL REIGN THROUGHOUT THE KINGDOM.

ON SOME DAYS MOVEMENT MAY BE RESTRICTED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE OF SOME RITES AT CERTAIN SPIRITUAL LOCATIONS.

AS USUAL, THERE WILL BE MASS CULTURAL DANCES AND PERFORMANCES IN COMMEMORATION OF PAST VICTORIES IN WARS FOUGHT BY THE FOUNDERS OF THE KINGDOM.

EVERYBODY IS ENJOINED TO BE PART OF THE FESTIVAL CELEBRATION IN ALL COMMUNITIES.

OF THE BRIDE IN URHOBO LAND

The process of taking a girl to her husband’s house is very important part of marriage ceremonies and is quite elaborate. The day was obviously one of joy and happiness to the man while to the girl it was taken with mixed feelings of joy and sorrow; the joy of going to make a home where she would be mistress and the sorrow of parting with he r parents and other members of the family.

The husband sent a deputation to the parents of his wife with the sum of two shillings and a bottle of gin to ask that his wife be escorted to him. The father of the girl fixed a date. The husband either asked his own people to take the girl or the girl’s family did the excursion. The later cause may cost a man of average means about twenty to thirty pounds while the former cost much less than five pounds. The ceremony of taking a girl t her husband’s house was usually done in the evening.
