Former House of Representatives member andphilanthropist, Prince Ned Nwoko has dragged an onlinepublisher, Azuka Jebose Molokwu, to court claimingN2billion damages for defamation of character.This is contained in a writ of summons obtained fromEffurun High Court, Delta State on behalf of Nwoko by hiscounsel, Ikhide Ehighelua and Co dated July 13, 2020.Also joined in the suit No. EHC 99 as the seconddefendant is Prince Chukwunonso Nwoko identified as theemployer and sponsor of the first defendant, Jebose, anative of Onicha-Ugbo in Aniocha North LocalGovernment Area of Delta State, resident in the UnitedStates of America.According to the suit, both defendants made highlydefamatory publications in several online blogs and othersocial media platforms “calculated to reduce theestimation of the claimant” and denigrate his reputation inthe public.It stated that the malicious publications had continuedunabated against the plaintiff in spite of warnings by hissolicitors to the defendants.Counsel to Nwoko also stated that the first defendantdefiantly came out openly on the social media that thecautions would not be a deterrent to his defamatorypublications, prompting the legal action.The claimant had also sought in his favour, before thecourt a “public apology to be published by the defendantsin at least two national daily newspapers circulating inNigeria and social media platforms” as well as an orderof perpetual injunction restraining the defendants frommaking any further defamatory publications against him.
