IN MEMORY OF CHARLES DANIELS, MD, FAMILYLOVE 97.7FM.
Today, February 13, 2026, we celebrate World Radio Day! 🎙️ We're honouring the incredible Charles Maraizu Daniels, 57, Managing Director Familylove 97.7FM, Executive Director of Multimesh Group, Promoter of Rivers State Indigenous Languages on Air, my Senior at Akpor Grammar School International Old Boys Association, a true Ikwerre (Iwhuruohna) man in words and deeds and Rivers son in whom we are well pleased. He spoke Ikwere fluently than his Umunkiri Obingwa tongue. He grew, schooled and worked in Evo Kingdom of Ikwerre ethnic nationality. The gentle, handsome "CMD" was an Anglican Layreader, Evangelist, Chairman Directorate of for Civic and Political Affairs, Iriebe Parishioner and member of the Evo Diocesan Board. He was passionate advocate for Indigenous Language programmes and left an indelible mark in our land. As we mark this day with the theme "Radio and Artificial Intelligence", we remember Charles' tireless efforts with Familylove 97.7FM, helping launch our language programmes in 2021 - a move that catapulted our presence and grew the Station' audience significantly!
Dear CMD, your work didn't just promote our languages, it preserved our culture and connected generations. Your dedication to quality content, engaging storytelling, and empowering local voices earned you evergreen respect and admiration. You inspired a movement,
Sir Charles is a movement that values the power of language, the richness of culture, and the impact of radio on communities.
As an adopted Ikwerre man, true Rivers State man, and landlord, you saw the need for indigenous language education and reached out to me through Sir Bon Woke,MNIPR (one time Acting Managing Director of Rivers State Television and Director Ministry of Information, a father in Iwhuruohna Journalists Forum), connecting with the team from Ikwere Language School, Rivers Language Centre, and Rivers State Indigenous Language Teachers Association. Together, you kick-started the sail with Igek'ayi (Ikwerre Language) by Dr Ovuchi J. Agwnu; Ogoni by Pst. Dr Nwineenwi Dum-ale, Kalabari/Okrika by Revd T.S. Bongilli, later followed by Odenigbo (Igbo) and Yoruba - paving the way for others to showcase their languages.
Your contributions will continue to echo through the Ogbakor Ikwerre award-winning Familylove 97.7FM and beyond, influencing policies, sparking conversations, and bridging gaps. Rest in peace, Charles. Your legacy lives on, inspiring future broadcasters and language enthusiasts. Your worth as Secretary-General of Independent Broadcasters in Nigeria (IBAN) and Managing Director of Cable Africa Network Television remain with reverberating impacts.
We shall surely immortalize you as our hero in whom we are well pleased!
Rest on in God's bosom as He is your Maker and Saviour of your soul!
