The Kalabari and Okrika, also referred to as Wakirike-Se, represent two distinct yet closely related sub-ethnic groups within the larger Ijaw ethnic community.

These groups are found in the Eastern Niger Delta region of Nigeria, an area rich in cultural diversity and history. While the Kalabari and Okrika share numerous cultural similarities, including language roots and some traditional customs, they take great pride in maintaining their separate identities and distinct traditions.

Their distinctions are evident primarily in various cultural practices, such as unique forms of art, music, and dance, as well as in dress and oral literature. Furthermore, there exist historical political dynamics between them that highlight their unique historical trajectories and inter-group relations.

Despite these differences, their interconnectedness through ancestry, trade, and shared environmental factors contributes to a fascinating blend of unity and individuality within the broader tapestry of Nigerian cultural heritage.
