PRESS STATEMENT

**PEACE IS PRICELESS*

MY DEAR GOOD PEOPLE OF RIVERS STATE.
I CONSIDER IT NECESSARY TO ISSUE THIS PRESS STATEMENT ON THE DEVELOPMENTS OF THE PAST FEW DAYS IN OUR DEAR STATE.

LATE ON SUNDAY NIGHT, 29TH OCTOBER 2023, I WAS INUNDATED WITH REPORTS THAT THE HALLOWED CHAMBER OF THE RIVERS STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY HAS BEEN GUTTED BY FIRE. THE BLAZE WAS SUCCESSFULLY PUT OUT BY THE FIRE SERVICE, AFTER WHICH SECURITY AGENCIES TOOK CONTROL OF THE SITUATION.

MY VISIT TO THE ASSEMBLY COMPLEX ON MONDAY, 30TH OCTOBER 2023 WAS TO ASSESS THE LEVEL OF DAMAGE AND UNDERTAKE REMEDIAL MEASURES TO PROTECT LIVES AND PROPERTY WITHIN THE ASSEMBLY COMPLEX. I CHARGED THE SECURITY AGENCIES TO THOROUGHLY INVESTIGATE THE INCIDENT AND REPORT TO ME.

SHORTLY AFTER, I GOT REPORTS THAT THE STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY HAD BROKEN INTO TWO FACTIONS: ONE CLAIMING TO HAVE IMPEACHED AND SUSPENDED THE HOUSE LEADER AND 3 OTHERS PREPARATORY TO INITIATING AN IMPEACHMENT ACTION AGAINST ME, AND THE OTHER RIVAL FACTION IMPEACHING THE SPEAKER AND DEPUTY SPEAKER, THUS SPARKING OFF SOME FORM OF POLITICAL CRISIS.

I WISH TO THANK THE PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA, HIS EXCELLENCY BOLA AHMED TINUBU, GCFR, FOR HIS FATHERLY INTERVENTION WHICH OPENED A SERIES OF COMMUNICATION CHANNELS TO FACILITATE THE TIMELY RESOLUTION OF THE FESTERING CRISES. I WISH TO ALSO THANK OUR ELDERS WHO ARE CURRENTLY INTERVENING IN THE MATTER.

LET ME CLEARLY STATE THAT MY ACTIONS ARE AIMED AT RESTORING PEACE AND STABILITY IN OUR STATE. I AM A MAN OF PEACE AND AS GOVERNOR, THE ADVANCEMENT OF OUR STATE IS MY PRIMARY CONCERN. CONSEQUENTLY, NO SACRIFICE IS TOO MUCH FOR ME TO MAKE TO ACHIEVE THIS OBJECTIVE.

FURTHERMORE, IT IS THE COLLECTIVE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE IMMEDIATE PAST GOVERNOR AND MINISTER OF THE FEDERAL CAPITAL TERRITORY, HIS EXCELLENCY, CHIEF BARRISTER, EZENWO NYESOM WIKE, GSSRS, LIFE BENCHER AND MY HUMBLE SELF, TO LEVERAGE ON OUR POSITIONS AND INFLUENCES WITHIN AND OUTSIDE THE STATE TO ADVANCE THE PROGRESS, SECURITY AND WELL-BEING OF OUR PEOPLE.

WE MUST THEREFORE NOT ALLOW CIRCUMSTANCES THAT COULD RE**RD ALL EFFORTS AT ACHIEVING GREATNESS FOR OUR PEOPLE TO PREVAIL.

ON MY PART, I AM ALWAYS WILLING AND READY TO EMBRACE THE PATH TO LASTING PEACE AND TRANQUILITY WITH A COMMITMENT TO CONSUMMATING ALL EFFORTS AND INITIATIVES BY MR. PRESIDENT AND OTHER WELL-MEANING NIGERIANS, INCLUDING MY BROTHER GOVERNORS AND THE ELDERS.

I ASSURE THE GOOD PEOPLE AND YOUTHS OF RIVERS STATE, THAT PEACE WILL CERTAINLY PREVAIL AND WE SHALL CONTINUE TO WORK TOGETHER TO ADVANCE THE PEACE, SECURITY, PROGRESS AND DEVELOPMENT OF OUR STATE.

AS GOVERNOR, I SINCERELY APOLOGISE TO THE GOOD PEOPLE OF RIVERS STATE FOR THE REGRETTABLE ANXIETIES OF THE LAST FEW DAYS, WHILE THANKING YOU ALL FOR YOUR CONCERNS, AND CONTINUED SUPPORT, LOVE, AND PRAYERS.

MAY GOD CONTINUE TO BLESS OUR DEAR RIVERS STATE.

GOVERNMENT SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

There has been unfounded reports making the rounds on various media platforms about His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, sacking certain categories of his aides and local council chairmen.

This is to clarify that His Excellency has not given me such directive as the official spokesman of the State government as at today Tuesday, October 31, 2023.

Our dear governor is a technocrat, with robust civil service background, kind hearted and a very humane person who does things according to laid down rules and with the fear of God.

We therefore ask Rivers people and the general public to jettison such unconfirmed reports as the public will be properly informed of who and who may have been removed by His Excellency at the appropriate time.

It is pertinent to note that as the Commissioner for Information and Communication, I shall keep the public updated of events in due course.

GOV FUBARA VISITS RIVERS STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY COMPLEX ON MONDAY'S MORNING

The governor spoke:
"It is very unfortunate that we should be experiencing this thing again after 9/10 years ago when we had a similar experience.

"I got distressing information very late yesterday, I said I will come this morning to come and see things for myself. The truth about it is that everybody who knows me know that I am a peaceful person.

"I can never ever, for any reason, even if I am aware that there is a plot to impeach me for whatever reason

"I am not bothered about it but I am worried that a facility like this that we used taxpayers money to build will be destroyed for selfish reason just to please somebody. It is unfortunate.

"I am calling on security agencies, but from what I have seen, the security is even compromised.... they were shooting at me directly...yhe DC operations was shooting at me.

"From what am seeing the security is even compromised as they were shooting at him directly. The DC operations was shooting at me directly, but it doesn't matter, somebody will die one day.

"I want to die the death, when people hear who is Fubara, they will say he is that man that was killed for a just struggle for Rivers people.

"I am not against anybody, neither planning anything against anybody, but I don't know where all these things are coming from. Let it be but on record, whoever masterminded the attack at the assembly is trying to divert attention.

"I heard some people gathered hear to do something. Whatever they did here is totally rubbish. You cannot sit when there is a problem can say you are doing anything, what are you doing. I am the Chief Security Officer, I am the head of the government, the first person to see and create an alternative place for the assembly to sit. Whatever action taken here is null and void."

RT. HON EDISON EHIE ELECTED NEW SPEAKER OF RSHA
... Promises to uphold principles of fairness and justice.

Rt Hon Edison Ehie, member representing Ahoada East constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly has been elected the new speaker of the 10th Rivers State House of Assembly.

His emergence as the new Rivers State House of Assembly Speaker came after 26 members of the Assembly elected him during plenary following the suspension of some key officers of the assembly.

Briefing newsmen in Port Harcourt, the new speaker promises to discharge his duty without fear or favour but be fair and just to all and sundry, and give to his colleagues their constitutional entitlements.

"My commitment to Rivers people is that II will be just and fair to all and sundry, I will ensure that the rule of law takes its course, I will not betray my colleagues, I will not betray, Rivers people, I will not betray my constituency. I will ensure the independence of the Rivers State House of Assembly is adhered to, with mutual respect for the judiciary and the executive arms of government."

The new speaker also stated that he will give fair hearing to suspended members of the Assembly through the Committee on Petition.

Rt Hon Ehie also announced that the House has adjourned sine dine following a circular served by the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria, ( PASAN) to commence an indefinite nationwide strike.

*Security Report in Port Harcourt*

There is an emerging political crisis between the Governor of Rivers State, Sim Fubara and his predecessor, Chief E.N. Wike the Minister of FCT over an attempt to impeach the incumbent governor.

The State Assembly has already been burntdown late Sunday evening.

Political thugs from both sides are planning to mobilize to the street in support of their masters and may unleash harm on innocent citizens.

As you go out from tomorrow, be watchful of your surrounding so that you won't fall victim.

You can reduce your movement round Port Harcourt for now except for crucial and important matter.

Lets Keep praying for Rivers State.
