PERSONAL KNOWLEDGE OF CHRIST — NOT DEPENDENCE ON MEN
I look at this kind of programme and I am reminded of the warning of Scripture.
The prayers of a father and mother in the privacy of their bedroom, sincerely seeking God, are not inferior to the ministry of any self-acclaimed “oracle.” Christ did not establish a priestly class of spiritual celebrities through whom ordinary believers must access God.
If a man begins to present himself as “The Oracle,” where then is Christ as the source, mediator and foundation of his ministry? We are servants, vessels and instruments of Christ—not substitutes for Christ.
The danger is that people can gradually transfer their faith from Christ to a man, from the Word to miracles, and from personal knowledge of God to dependence on a spiritual personality.
And Scripture has already warned us that extraordinary signs and wonders can be used to deceive:
> “And he doeth great wonders...” — Revelation 13:13
Therefore, miracles alone are not proof that a ministry is from God. Jesus Himself warned about people who would point to supernatural works while He would say, “I never knew you” (Matthew 7:22–23).
THE GREATEST MIRACLE OF OUR AGE
Perhaps the greatest miracle is not merely seeing someone perform a sign.
It is coming into a personal knowledge of Jesus Christ.
It is Christ being formed in us in the fullness of His life, character and sonship—so that our faith is not dependent upon a third party.
We should know Christ for ourselves.
We should know the Word for ourselves.
We should pray for ourselves.
We should exercise the authority Christ has given His people.
We should be able to approach God without needing an “oracle” to stand between us and Him.
The goal of Christianity is not to make men dependent on miracle workers.
The goal is to bring men into a living, personal knowledge of CHRIST.
Let every vessel remain a vessel.
Let every servant remain a servant.
And let CHRIST remain the SOURCE, the POWER and the GLORY.
