Otụtụ bụ ihe ekwuru n’ ọnu ma emeghị ya eme
kpatara ufọdu ji zabazie Omemgbeoji,
Omemgbeoji gwara ụmụnna ya si n’ọbụ nkwa ka o kwere na-ogbughị mmadu, naanị oge ka o ga-eri.
Onye na- egbughi ehi mgbe nna ya nwụrụ, ọ ga-eji ehi gaara enyi ya mgbalụ ?
Onye na- erughi otu mbe,a na-ebe ya mbe abụọ ?
Omemgbeoji e kwuola si, ka chi na- efo, na- eji.
O kwu iri, eme otu !!!.
Ọtụrụkpọkpọ si n' ụbọchị nne ya ga-anwụ ọnwụ, ọ nwere ọnụ gbagbusịa ọjị, o wee ruo ụbọchị nne Ọtụrụkpọkpọ nwụrụ, otuto nwee too Ọtụrụkpọkpọ n’ ọnụ. Ọtụrụkpọkpọ agbagbuziri ọji kwanụ ?
Nwanza rijuru afọ tụọrọ chi ya ọgụ, kedụ ihe kara ya obi ?
Azụ pụtara n'elu anị , ọ makwa ihe ọ na-eme ?.
Aka niile araghọ, kwelu ka ị ra,
Nwanne, akonuche bu isi ije,
Ọ kwa nga nga ka eji agbara ehi oso,
Onye aghuna nkwu ga-egbuya egbuoo,
Kwuo nke i ga-emenwu maka ị kwunye onwe gị n’ ọkụ, gị na ya emewe, ịkpachaghị anya, ọ ghụọ gị ka ji.
Gbakọọ ma tulee,
Anya saa gị n’ ije ụwa a,
O ji nwayọ anaghị emelụ ahụ,
Onye kwelụ nkwa na onye riri amụ ebune,
ha abụọ jicha ụgwọ,
N’ olu Chief Oliver d’ Coque, oti egwu, bụrụ "a simple man by nature”

P.S: The image attached to this post is of the Woodpecker. In Igbo language, it is called Oturukpokpoo which is the title of the poem.
In Igbo folklore and parable, the Woodpecker stated in a boastful way that the day the mother will die , he will cut down a tree with it's beak.
Unfortunately, the day the mother died, a boil grew on its beak , so Oturukpokpoo was not able to do as he said 😁.
