*PRESS RELEASE*

*Human Capital Investment: Akoko South East Council Boss Funds Indigent Scholars Admitted to the Nigeria Law School.*

The Office of the Executive Chairman of Akoko South East Local Government has announced the approval of targeted financial assistance for indigent students of council origin who have secured admission into the Nigeria Law School. The measure, signed off by Hon. Engr. Ayegbo Omolehin Jude, is intended to cushion the heavy expenses associated with professional legal training and to affirm the council’s faith in education as a ladder of mobility for families of modest means.

Beneficiaries were selected from among Akoko South East indigenes on verifiable evidence of admission and need, and each received a direct disbursement from the council. The intervention, though modest in scale, is deliberate in symbolism: that brilliance nurtured in Isua, Ipe, Ifira, Ipesi Epinmi and Sosan should not be throttled by fees and upkeep at the final stage of qualification.

Hon. Ayegbo described the support as an investment not merely in individual careers but in communal capacity—in future advocates, arbiters, and public-spirited professionals who will add their learning to the peace and development of the local government area. He noted that the legal profession, for all its rigours, remains a strategic pipeline for leadership and for the protection of rights at the grassroots.

The Executive Chairman further emphasized that this gesture fits within a broader agenda of education and youth empowerment, which includes school-support initiatives, skills programmes, and engagements with community leaders to keep bright students in classrooms and lecture halls rather than on idling corners. Transparency, he pledged, will guide the process: recipients are documented, acknowledgments are issued, and the council remains open to supporting verifiable cases as resources permit.

*Akoko South East Holds Security Summit, Moves to Establish Security Trust Fund and Community Security Network.*

The Executive Chairman of Akoko South East Local Government, Hon. Engr. Omolehin Jude Ayegbo, convened a high-level security summit that brought together traditional rulers, community stakeholders, youth leaders, and heads of all security formations operating within the council area.

The meeting was called in response to growing concerns over insecurity affecting farms, highways, and border communities. It opened with the Chairman acknowledging the sacrifices and daily risks taken by security personnel and local vigilantes in keeping residents safe.

In his welcome address, Hon. Ayegbo stressed that security is not the responsibility of a single agency but a collective duty of the entire community. He commended the Nigeria Police Force, Amotekun Corps, and the Nigerian Army for their vigilance and commitment to maintaining peace in the area.

He also noted recent incidents of kidnapping and farm invasions around Ipesi, Ifira, and Isua Akoko, explaining that the council’s objective is to move from a reactive approach to a preventive one by building sustainable security structures that will outlast any single administration.

One of the major resolutions unanimously adopted after extensive deliberations was the creation of the Akoko South East Security Trust Fund. The Trust Fund will pool contributions from the local government, private donors, and development partners to finance security logistics such as patrol vehicles, communication gadgets, torches, boots, raincoats, and fuel.

Another key resolution was the establishment of the Akoko South East Security Network as an umbrella platform to coordinate local security efforts. The network will integrate existing community vigilantes, hunter associations, and neighbourhood watch groups under standardized rules of engagement, a code of conduct, and structured training schedules. Its formation is designed to complement state and federal security agencies by leveraging local knowledge of farm routes, forests, and community trails.

Participants also recommended practical measures to involve transport unions in the security framework. The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and the Okada Riders Association will be incorporated into the plan, with every commercial motorcyclist required to wear a reflective jacket bearing a unique identification number. The same number will also be boldly inscribed on the fuel tank of the motorcycle to discourage criminal impersonation.

The meeting further mandated that the six communities within the local government establish community-based security outfits composed of youths nominated by their respective quarters and screened in collaboration with traditional rulers. These volunteers will receive training in arrest procedures, human rights compliance, and evidence preservation before being formally integrated into the council’s Security Network to prevent rivalries or parallel command structures.

To address security concerns associated with late-night movements, stakeholders also resolved that bye-laws be introduced to restrict Okada operations between 7:00 pm and 7:00 am.

Hon. Ayegbo and other stakeholders emphasized the importance of public awareness and community participation in intelligence gathering. Sensitization campaigns will be carried out through town criers, mosques, churches, markets, and school assemblies to educate residents on how to report suspicious activities, the type of information required, and the appropriate contact channels.

The Chairman reiterated that timely and credible information from residents remains one of the most effective tools in combating crime and preventing the spread of misinformation.
