MY DENOUNCEMENT
Two months and days have passed, but the wound still feels fresh. My dad, a man who carries my burden was arrested on the orders of the present governor, leaving my family and community in shambles. As the saying goes, "When the roof is on fire, the rain doesn't help" our governor's actions have only poured fuel on the flames of our suffering.
My dad who simply left Ondo state to Ebonyi for a funeral of a loved one; he was unaware of the brewing storm. He was caught in the crossfire of a communal war, a war that our governor has seemingly fueled for his own gain. It's said that "a fish rots from the head," and I fear that our governor's leadership has become a poison, spreading injustice and suffering throughout our community. My dad, alongside the king of our clan, was taken away, and for weeks, we had no idea if he was alive or dead. It was as if time had stood still, and we were trapped in a never-ending nightmare.
The consequences are dire: no school, no hospital, no market, and no movement. People are dying of hunger, and a single community is crying out for help. Why imposing agony on a single community, leaving the other one free? Is it because your wife belong to the opposition community? Why so cruel and heartless? Are you not the same governor that swore; saying "That the lives and properties of the citizens are in your hands?
The governor's silence has been deafening. He has refused to comment on the situation or show any empathy towards our suffering. As the saying goes, "A tree with shallow roots is easily uprooted" - our governor's lack of compassion and accountability has made him a danger to our community.
But even in the darkest of times, there is hope. I recall the words of our elders: "When the sun is hidden, the stars still shine." My dad's spirit remains strong, and I will continue to fight for justice in my own clan.... (Amasiri)
Today, I may denounce myself as an Ebonyian. I'm ashamed to be associated with a system that allows such injustice and oppression. I'm ashamed that my community is being treated like it's disposable. But I will not be silenced. I will not give up. I will keep speaking out, and I will keep fighting until justice is served.
I repeat: Daddy, I may denounced myself as an Ebonyian, and I am sorry if it hurts you where ever you're right now. I can't take the agony any longer, for I can't worship the god that prefers to harm me; instead to protect her citizens. It may sound so sad to say, maybe for your sake; but I owe no one apology. I may denounced myself as an Ebonyian; and I am sorry if do. ๐
Mister Governor, I ask: how will you answer to the people, and to history? How will you justify your actions, and your silence? The eyes of the nation are upon you, and the cries of our community will not be ignored till, and it will keep hurting you and your house hold; even after years...
Yes it's me...
