SCORING A SONG FOR CHOIR REHEARSAL
pls note words in bracket ()

Good day everyone,
i was at EXPERIENCE program, i took notice of when the foreign singers were singing e.g. Micah Stampley, Donnie Mc Clurkin and so on were performing their harmony were (noiseless) and sweet to my hearing. i begin to make research and found out that it's what we call Speech Level Singing (SLS).

Although We sing well in Nigeria but we have not attained the level of pitching high notes noiselessly but rather shout it or yell it out. Hence, most of our harmony in the Choir/Band are too noisy.

Today i want to share on how to score out songs from the CD to perform.

Here are the basic things you need to score out a song. You must understand the concept SATB meaning soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass, this setting is for Classical Music

But for Contemporary you need SAT, SAT1T2, SA1A2T(soprano, Alto and Tenor).

You need to understand that soprano Singer is the highest voice followed by Alto Singer and then Tenor Singers.

There is what we call the Melody line (that's the main part of the song).

In our old time singing, most of the time soprano Singers takes the melody part,

SETTINGS 1:

Soprano SINGERS: MELODY PART

ALTO SINGERS: ALTO PART

TENOR SINGERS: TENOR PART

SETTINGS 2:

If Melody line is given to Alto:

ALTO SINGERS: MELODY PART

Soprano SINGERS: TENOR PART

TENOR SINGERS: ALTO PART

SETTINGS 3:

If Tenor sings the Melody Line

TENOR SINGERS: MELODY LINE

ALTO SINGERS: TENOR PART

Soprano SINGERS: ALTO PART

Note: No matter the swap level or settings, soprano singers will always sing the highest pitch followed by Alto Singers and then Tenor Singers.

Now how do you score? I recommend that trace the Soprano singer to know what part they are singing since you can easily hear their pitch, try to know whether they are holding the Melody line or otherwise then apply the formular or Settings above to fish out all the parts, alternatively you can listen to know which of the Voice type is singing the Melody line to get other parts out. After you are sure of the parts you need to listen to a part one at a time to score thoroughly.

Thank you so much.

Violin
The violin is the smallest and highest-pitched of the string instrument family. Violins are important instruments in a wide variety of musical genres - they are most prominent in the Western classical tradition and in many varieties of folk music, however they are also frequently used in country music, jazz, and even rock music.
History
It's thought the first violin was constructed around 1555 by Andrea Amati, although no one is sure of the exact year. Older versions of the instrument only had three strings, and were known as 'violetta'.

Range
A violin can play from the G below middle C, known as G3, up to a high E two octaves above its highest string, known as E7. Each of the four strings is tuned a fifth apart, making up the notes G, D, A and E. The sound is made when vibrations from the strings resonate inside the instrument's wooden body.

How to play
- Changing the length of the string by pressing down on it changes the frequency of the vibration - and so makes a different note.
- Every violin is made up of certain parts including pegs to hold the strings, a bridge to rest the strings on, a fingerboard, on which a player puts his or her fingertips, and sometimes a chin rest to make playing more comfortable.
- The bow is made from a horse hair and a stick of wood, and is usually around 75cm long. 'Rosin' is created from liquid plant resin, and rubbed on the hair to help it grip the strings and make sound when the violin is played.
- It's not just the bow that makes a sound on the violin. A player can use their right hand to pluck the strings, known as playing 'pizzicato'.

instruments.

History
Guitars have been played since the Renaissance era, after descending from the ancient Greek instrument, the kithara. Or, at least, that's how the theory goes: the only real proof for this is the similarities between the Greek word and the Spanish word, quitarra. Early guitars often had four strings, evolving into the six-string version we know today in the late 1600s. Anton Stradivari, the famous violin-maker, also had a hand in making guitars. There's now only one Stradivarius guitar left in existence.

Range
A classical guitar has six strings: E, B, G, D, A and E, usually tuned from the E below middle C to the E a third above. The highest note played on a guitar is dependent on the number of frets on the guitar's 'neck', that is, the long wooden board on which the strings sit - but it's usually a D or an E two octaves above the highest string.

How to play
Unlike many string instruments which use a bow to create a sound, guitars are played by plucking or strumming the strings on the instrument, which vibrate to create a sound. Chords are played when the guitarist holds their fingers down on more than one individual string to change its length, which in turn changes the frequency of the vibration created - in other words, it creates a different note. Performers often use guitar tabs, rather than sheet music, when learning music: this acts as a kind of 'map' to teach guitarists where to put their fingers on the strings.

THE PIANO , short for pianoforte, is a keyboard instrument made up of 52 white keys and 36 black keys.

As well as being a solo instrument, the cello can be found playing a range of music in the symphony orchestra - from soaring tunes to grumbling basslines.
History
The piano is a keyboard instrument descended from early instruments like the clavichord and harpsichord, which used strings inside the instrument's body which were plucked or struck. But it's thought the inventor of the modern piano was Bartolomeo Cristofori, who created an instrument capable of a large dynamic range.

Range
Almost every modern piano has 88 keys, giving the instrument a range of seven octaves plus a minor third, from A0 to C8. Older pianos often have fewer keys.

How to play
When you press one of the piano's keys, it causes a felt hammer to hit the tuned strings inside the instrument. The strings vibrate to create a sound.

Did you know?
Grand pianos usually have three pedals, known as the soft pedal (una corda), sostenuto, and sustain pedal.
