This was one of our random contestants from the
Nigeria Federation of Catholic Students, FUT Minna who participated in the Francescan Chorale challenge.

After the Sunday Mass, we randomly invite choristers to take up the Sight-Reading Challenge.

Here’s how it works:

A hymn is selected from the hymn book on the spot.
The chorister is asked to:

▪️First sing the hymn in solfa notation
▪️Then sing the words/text

No prior rehearsal. No preparation.

Those who do well walk away with instant cash prizes 💰

We are doing this to encourage more choristers to learn how to sight-read, because we have noticed that many now learn songs by hearing alone rather than by reading music.

We will be coming to more parishes.

The RED CARPET SIGHT-READING CHALLENGE, proudly hosted by Francescan Chorale is live!

Our first stop was:
Nigeria Federation of Catholic Students, FUT Minna . St. Malachy Catholic Chaplaincy did not disappoint. 👌

Random hymns were drawn from a hymn book on the spot. Teams were built on the spot (4 persons on a team).
No rehearsal. No prior notice.
Each team was given:

⏱ 1 minute to sing the solfa
⏱ 1 minute to sing the words (text)

All done instantly. Live. Under pressure. 🎶🔥

Two SATB teams competed - building harmony right there.
Solo challengers also stepped forward boldly.

Winners walked away with:

💰 ₦12,000
💰 ₦4,000
🎤 Solo winners received ₦2,000 each!

The harmony. The confidence. The musicianship.
Minna showed serious strength.

Music is a powerful tool for community growth and youth development.
In many cultures, music has long been a source of inspiration and motivation. In days gone by, women and youths would sing while learning, teaching, or working on skills like farming, crafting, or storytelling. Music made tasks more enjoyable and helped build community bonds.

We are still buzzing from our Christmas Community Outreach! Huge thanks to our VOLUNTEERS from Lapai, Niger State, and Guru, Bauchi State - you all are the best! Over 50 of you showed up and offered your skills, time, and love to those in need. From hair braiding, haircuts, physiotherapy, dressmaking, cooking, medical services, makeup, and more, you all did an amazing job! The communities in Lapai and Guru were blown away by your generosity, and many even joined in to help. That's what happens when music meets service - it creates something beautiful.

We love you and hope to have you as facilitators someday ❤️ 💕
