🚨 Benue Probe Panel Says N139.8bn Cannot Be Accounted For Under Ortom Administration

A Benue State probe panel has reported that about N139.8 billion cannot be accounted for after reviewing government finances during the administration of former Governor Samuel Ortom between 2015 and 2023.

According to the commission, Benue generated over N826.5 billion within the period, while expenditure stood at about N683.4 billion, leaving a balance the panel says remains unexplained.

The commission also raised concerns over certain loan transactions involving local government councils and financial institutions, as well as transfers of public funds that allegedly lacked adequate documentation.

The report was presented to Governor Hyacinth Alia’s administration in Makurdi on Friday. The government says it will study the recommendations and take necessary action.

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu Announces N100m Grant for 2,000 Women Traders in Benue

The First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu, has announced a N100 million grant to support 2,000 petty traders across Benue State.

The announcement came during the commissioning of a Community ICT Centre in Ihugh, Vandeikya LGA, where she also emphasized how ICT is becoming a powerful tool for empowering women and young people in today’s economy.

Under the Renewed Hope Initiative, 1,000 women in Vandeikya will share N50 million, while another 1,000 women in Makurdi and surrounding areas will also benefit from N50 million to support and grow their small businesses.

The ICT project, delivered in partnership with the National Information Technology Development Agency, is part of efforts to bridge the digital gap and give communities better access to tech skills and opportunities.

Governor Hyacinth Alia also described the centre as a game-changer for entrepreneurship, e-marketing, and small business development in the state.

For many women traders, this is coming at a very important time when survival in business is not easy.

So the other day, while crossing River Buruku, I made a video of the journey. As expected, many people appeared in the background because it was a public place. My own face even showed clearly in the video. There was also a girl who happened to be in the same Benue Links bus with us that day. The video only captured part of her from behind as I was turning the camera around. My camera wasn’t focused on her and her face wasn’t even clearly visible.

Now, the funny part is that I added a background sound to the video. The background sound is from a TikTok live of some Tiv girls and a guy talking about kwagh kpaan. Anybody who understands social media knows that sounds are usually added during editing and don’t necessarily have anything to do with the people in the video.

But this girl came to the comment section insisting that I recorded her and uploaded the video with that sound, making people think she was the one speaking. She even went as far as finding my private number and calling me to take the video down 😂😂

As if that wasn’t enough, she reported the matter and one senior man from the village even called me, saying I should remove the video because people were talking about it 😂😂

At that point, I just edited the video and removed the part where she appeared. Problem solved.

But now here’s where it gets interesting… after I uploaded the video, Orkwande downloaded it and posted the same video on his own page. So my question is: will she now go and ask Orkwande to take it down too? 😂😂

Sometimes the real problem isn’t the video. It’s when the person in the video actually knows you personally 😂🤷‍♂️

🔥Benue youths rescue kidn@p v¡ct¡ms, arrest three suspects

According to reports, several travellers were abducted by armed men along the Ugbokolo-Aokpe road in Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State on Wednesday night. For many families, it must have been a terrifying night, not knowing where their loved ones were or what could happen next.

But instead of folding their arms, vigilant youths in the community reportedly mobilized themselves and launched a search operation. Their determination paid off. The suspected k¡dn@ppers were tracked, five victims were rescued, and three suspects were arrested while another suspect reportedly escaped.

Imagine the relief of those families when they received the call that their loved ones had been found alive and reunited with them. In a time when stories of k¡dn@pping have become far too common in Nigeria, this rescue offers a rare moment of hope.

Confirming the incident, Okpokwu Local Government Chairman, Adah Inalegwu, said the vict¡ms were successfully rescued after the kidn@ppers abandoned them and fled when pressure from the local youths became too much. He also noted that while three people were later apprehended by members of the community, authorities are still working to determine whether they were actually involved in the kidn@pping.

For me, two things stand out here. First, the bravery of the Ugbokolo youths deserves recognition. They stepped up when their community needed them. Second, it is worrying that travellers are still facing this kind of danger on our roads.

Today, five families are smiling because their loved ones made it home safely. That alone is worth celebrating.

Kudos to the youths of Ugbokolo for their courage and quick response. Benue deserves safer roads, but until then, stories like this remind us that community vigilance can make a difference.
