WHY FIVE?

Because Africa is not one story.

The Design + Innovation Exhibition at Design Week Lagos 2026 is organised into five curatorial pavilions, each one a distinct lens into contemporary African design, innovation, culture and making: National Design + Innovation, African Diaspora, Anglophone Africa, Francophone Africa, and Lusophone Africa.

The Design + Innovation Exhibition is a curated platform where bold creativity and technical mastery meet, celebrating the depth and potential of Africa’s design and production ecosystems. Meet the Curators.

Nana Biamah-Ofosu (.ofosu), Curator, Pan African Design Pavilion, Anglophone Africa. A Ghanaian-British architect and founder of YAA Projects, her practice is built around counter-histories, material cultures, and diasporic experience through making, speaking, and writing architecture. A Unit Tutor at the Architectural Association and lecturer at Kingston School of Art, she has lectured widely including at the inaugural Venice Biennale College Architettura at the 18th International Architecture Biennale.

As a writer and practitioner, Biamah-Ofosu examines the social, political, and cultural dimensions of design and architecture, engaging with contemporary practitioners to define new paths towards a more critical, expansive, and inclusive discourse on the built environment. She brings that same rigour and intention to the Anglophone Africa Pavilion at the Design + Innovation Exhibition.

Meet the Curator.

Design Week Lagos is pleased to announce Júlio Rafael as Curator of the Lusophone Africa Pavilion at the Design + Innovation Exhibition 2026.

An architect, urbanist, and co-founder of Do Lado B in Angola, Rafael’s practice works across architecture, the city, and human behavior. Trained at South Bank University in London, his work since 2012 has used architecture as an active tool in urban transformation, with a parallel ceramics practice that reinforces his belief that space is not only designed but felt.

As Curator of the Lusophone Africa Pavilion, his vision is built around UNNAMED, a framework and a conviction: that what the continent needs most is not more creativity, but structure. Structure built by practitioners across the five Lusophone territories, on their own terms, in their own voice.
