Thereās something extremely special about this piece. Let me give you a brief story behind it.
Because I was so busy when I was making this portrait, I wasnāt thinking about contentāotherwise, this would have made a very interesting one. Maybe Iād have done a voiceāover instead.
Nevertheless, hereās the story. .curry25 here is a very good friend of mine. We met at CDS and served two tenures as CDS excos: first, I was the PRO and she was the assistant project manager; the second, I was president and she was project manager.
For some reason, she fell in love with my art and decided to entrust me with a gift for her manāa customized scribble ballpointāpen portrait. It was unusual, since most people only want realistic work, but she just wanted something artistic. Trust me to deliver, and she was blown away!
She promised to commission me again because she loved her manās piece so much. A few months later, she asked me to do the same for her mother. Thatās a story for another day šāhelp me beg her in the comments to send me a picture of her motherās work, and Iāll give you the full gist. The piece for her mother was totally amazing!
Now, her man reached out and wanted me to make the same kind of work I did for him and her mother for her. I didnāt argueāI knew sheād love it. The issue was that he wanted her in her NYSC uniform as a popāup gift, but all the photos he sent were not closeāups. I picked one eventually and started working. I wasnāt satisfied because whenever she commissioned me, she emphasized making the portrait bold. I paused, discussed it with her man, andāguess whatāhe agreed and gave me free rein to do whatever I thought sheād love. As an artist, thatās the best thing ever š.
I had to erase everything I had done already to start from scratch.
At that point, it stopped being a simple commission and became a collaboration with her man to give her a mindāblowing gift. I added her name āStephā in scribble designs on her cloth and āPMā for project manager, since thatās how we grew closer.
As expected, she loved it soooo much. I mean, whatās not to love?
Moral: anything worth doing is worth doing well.
