DEMOCRACY DAY MESSAGE TO NIGERIANS.

By, The Visionary Leaders Forum of Nigeria (VLFN);

Theme: "Reflecting on Our Journey, Renewing Our Commitment, Rebuilding Our Future"

Fellow Nigerians,

On behalf of the Visionary Leaders Forum of Nigeria (VLFN), I extend warm greetings to all citizens as we commemorate Democracy Day, a day that reminds us of our collective struggle, resilience, and unwavering commitment to democratic governance.

Today presents another opportunity to reflect on our national journeyβ€”where we are coming from, where we are today, and where we are heading as a people.

WHERE WE ARE COMING FROM

Nigeria's democratic journey has been characterized by sacrifice, perseverance, and the determination of countless patriots who envisioned a nation governed by the will of the people. Our founding fathers laid the foundation of unity amidst diversity, while democracy activists and heroes paid significant prices to preserve the rights and freedoms we enjoy today.

Though our journey has not been without setbacks, Nigeria has continued to demonstrate remarkable resilience in the face of political, economic, and social challenges. Through military interruptions, economic fluctuations, and national crises, the Nigerian spirit has remained unbroken.

WHERE WE ARE TODAY

As we celebrate another Democracy Day, we must honestly acknowledge the realities confronting our nation. Across the country, citizens continue to grapple with insecurity, unemployment, inflation, poverty, inadequate infrastructure, declining educational standards and challenges within our healthcare system.

Many young Nigerians are uncertain about the future. Families struggle with the rising cost of living. Businesses face operational difficulties, while public trust in leadership and institutions continues to be tested.
Yet, despite these challenges, Nigeria remains blessed with enormous human and natural resources. We possess one of the most vibrant youth populations in the world.

ADDRESS TO THE NATION ON THE CONTINUE RETAINING OF STUDENTS, TEACHERS IN OYO STATE AND THE GROWING INSECURITY IN NIGERIA; FROM THE VISIONARY LEADERS FORUM OF NIGERIA (VLFN).

30/5/2026.

IN SOLIDARITY!!!

My fellow Nigerians,

Today, we speak with heavy hearts and deep concern over the tragic abduction of innocent students and their teachers in Oyo State. This unfortunate incident is not just an attack on a school; it is an attack on the future of our nation, an attack on education and an attack on the collective hope of every Nigerian parent and child.

The prolonged captivity of these students and their teachers has become a matter of grave national concern. It is painful and heartbreaking that despite the passage of time, these innocent victims remain in the hands of their abductors. More disturbing is the reported killing of one of the teachers, a cruel act that has further heightened the fears and anxieties of families, communities, and well-meaning Nigerians.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased teacher and stand in solidarity with all affected families during this difficult period.

This incident is yet another reminder of the worsening security challenges confronting our nation. Across different parts of Nigeria, citizens continue to face kidnappings, banditry, terrorism, armed robbery, communal conflicts, and other forms of criminality. Schools, once considered safe havens for learning and character development, have increasingly become targets of criminal elements.

The question on the minds of Nigerians today is simple: How long shall innocent citizens continue to live in fear? How long shall parents send their children to school uncertain of their safety? How long shall criminals continue to operate with seeming impunity?

We therefore call on the Government of Oyo State Seyi Makinde and the Federal Government of Nigeria Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to rise to this challenge with renewed determination and urgency. The time for routine statements and promises has passed.
