As African women, we are often taught to follow the rules—to wear what’s considered ‘appropriate’ and have the ‘right’ kind of wedding dress. Every word on this reel is one I had to earn, not just write. Choose Yourself was born a fifteen year timeframe of sitting across from women at the most pivotal moments of their lives, and from my own quiet, ongoing work of becoming unapologetic.
