From August 15th–17th, Iwalewa Gallery of Art opened its doors to seven incredible artists whose work turned our space into a universe of color, perspective, and connection. From the opening reception to the final walkthrough, every conversation, every brushstroke, every shared moment reminded us why we do this.

To every artist ,every guest who walked through our doors, and everyone who showed up for African contemporary art , thank you. This exhibition may be over, but the constellations you helped create will stay with us.

'Fragments of Identity I' by Agbadu O. Peter uses heavily sculpted impasto and dramatic monochrome contrasts to explore how identity is fractured and reconstructed. Look again. That’s not a lollipop he’s holding. That’s not a normal second eye. And that hand at the bottom doesn’t belong to him.

Idele isn’t painting a portrait. He’s painting a surface covered in fragments, symbols, tiny figures, a heart, a whole hidden world stitched onto one face, and daring you to keep looking until it makes sense.
