EFCC Taskforce Arrests 34 Suspected Currency Speculators in Abuja
Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, attached to the Taskforce on Currency mutilation, Dollarization of the Economy and Forex Malpractice, have arrested 34 suspected currency speculators for alleged foreign exchange fraud.

They were arrested on Friday, April 26, 2024 in a sting operation following credible intelligence about illegal sales of dollars at the Wuse Zone 4 area of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja.

The suspects are :Usman Mohammed, Abdullahi Nasir, Abubakar Saleh, Mohammed Kabir Ibrahim, Abubakar Ghadafi, Muktar Usman, Umar Abubakar Abba, Yakubu Sani, Aminu Abubakar, Muhammed Suleman Abara, Yusuf Tahir, Usman Lawal, Usman Lawal, Usman Umar, Amina Garba Rola, Muhammed Aliyu, Murtala Haruna, Sani Mohammed, Umar Farouk, Muhammed Sagiuru, Aminu Salisu, Lawal Bello, Munzali Hashim, Jamilu Suleiman, Mustapha Umar, Mubarak Tanimu, Adamu Garba, Mohammed Usman, Bello Musa, Saleh Mohammed Naseer, Zaharadeen Yau, Musa Umaru Adamu, Usman Machido and Abdulaziz Abubakar Abba.

Their arrest came on the heels of the EFCC's consistent efforts to sanitise and stabilise the foreign exchange market.

They will soon be arraigned in court upon conclusion of investigations

You brought me joy as a Manchester United fan. You won my club her first World Footballer of the Year. No, I can not despise you. I know that you have your shortcomings like everyone else including your haters but you soar very high in your chosen profession.

From Lisbon at that young age, you walked into Old Trafford and assumed the club’s iconic jersey number 7 of George Best, Bryan Robson, Eric Cantona and David Becham and you gave your best. And despite this glorious list, you were the only one with the World’s Best Footballer. You won us trophies including that Champions League title that night in Moscow.

You rose and nodded in that goal against Cech, one of the best goalies of that period.

Madrid took you away and there your achievements dwarfed whatever you achieved in Manchester. You went on to win more and more personal and club laurels.

Karim Benzema picked up the Ballon d'Or 2022

The 66th Ballon d'Or ceremony took place at the Theatre du Chatelet, Paris on Monday night, with Real Madrid's Karim Benzema and Barcelona Feminin's Alexia Putellas the big winners.

Benzema took home the men's Ballon d'Or award following a scintillating 2021/22 season - the award was handed out for the first time ever based on performances over a season rather than over a calendar year - for Real Madrid.

The 34-year-old was the red-hot favourite for the award, and saw off competition from Sadio Mane, Kevin De Bruyne, Robert Lewandowski and Mohamed Salah - the other players who completed the top five.

Benzema's Real Madrid teammates Thibaut Courtois, Vinicius Junior and Luka Modric made the top ten, as did want-away Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe, who came sixth, and Erling Haaland, whose sensational start to life at Manchester City may well put him in contention for the 2023 award.

Cristiano Ronaldo, nominated for an 18th season in a row, placed 20th in the 2022 vote, just ahead of England trio Harry Kane, Phil Foden and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Alexia Putellas scooped the Ballon d'Or Feminin for the second consecutive year, following another outstanding campaign with Barcelona.

She saw off the challenge of Arsenal and England star Beth Mead, who came second, and Chelsea and Australia striker Sam Kerr.

The night's other winners included young Barcelona starlet Gavi, who won the Kopa Trophy, and Thibaut Courtois, winner of the Yashin Award for Best Goalkeeper. Robert Lewandowski picked up the Muller Trophy, for being the best striker, while Manchester City were named team of the year.
