When I wrote "GOING TO AMERICA," my primary aim was to capture the raw, multifaceted reality of the Nigerian experience concerning migration and the deep-seated issues that fuel it. I chose Pidgin English deliberately because it's the language of the street, the market, the home , it's immediate, visceral, and accessible to the very people whose stories I'm telling. It strips away formality and speaks with an unfiltered authenticity that standard English often can't convey in this context.

Join us at the Ola Black Poetry Contest 2024 in Oworo today!

Everyone, regardless of age, gender, or sensory abilities, is warmly welcomed to the Ola Black Poetry Contest 2024 in Oworo!
Step into a world of poetic expression and community connection. The Ola Black Poetry Contest 2024 in Oworo offers a unique platform for you to express yourself through poetry and connect with others in the community.

The contest is proudly organized by Agnes Jolayemi Johnson, a visionary leader and the CEO of Ola Black Arts and Oba Ushers & Greeters. Her expertise and passion ensure a memorable event for all.

In the year twenty twenty-three,
The Ola Black Poetry Contest did soar,
With poets from far and wide,
Gathering to showcase their pride.

The words they wove were bold and true,
Painting pictures with every hue,
Lines that leaped off the page,
Stirring hearts with every age.

From sonnets to free verse,
Each poem is an artistic gem to disperse,
Journeys of love, loss, and pain,
All are captured in this poetic refrain.

After the judges had spoken,
One poet won while others hearts were broken,
But the truth remains untold,
Without their souls, no poem could unfold.

Come and share your voice and experience the power of creativity.
We look forward to seeing you there!
