The WhistleDown Analysis: Seyi Tinubu and Lagos Youth Discontent.

The WhistleDown Analysis Sunday 19th January 2025. Prince Samson Adewale .

The opinion piece published in the Daily Independent on Friday, January 17th, 2023, entitled “Seyi Tinubu And His Father Will Fail 2027, There's Hunger, We Won't Accept His Ambition- Lagos Youths,” echoes a deep-seated discontent among Lagos youth regarding the political ambitions of Seyi Tinubu, the son of former Lagos State governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This critical examination of the write-up reveals troubling elements concerning objectivity and realizability, raising essential questions about its effectiveness as a tool for political discourse.

Objectivity is paramount in political discourse, particularly in a rapidly evolving landscape like Lagos. Unfortunately, the aforementioned article demonstrates a clear lack of it. The reliance on subjectivity, particularly through the youth group's alignment with Primate Ayodele’s prophecy, casts a shadow over their assertions. The prophets may hold influence in certain segments of society, but invoking prophetic claims without supporting them with concrete evidence results in a highly opinionated statement devoid of logical underpinning. This strategy fails to produce a compelling assessment of Seyi Tinubu's qualifications and underscores an egregious lapse in the principles of informed argumentation.

Moreover, the language employed in the piece skews towards emotional appeal and ad hominem attacks, notably describing supporters as “hungry” and “desperate.” Such rhetoric detracts from the credibility of the argument, presenting it less as an insightful critique and more as an unrestrained emotional outcry. A lack of substantive critique raises concerns about the sincerity of the youth group's position and whether their grievances are born from genuine concern or merely a reactionary stance against legacy politics.

The effectiveness of any opposition movement often hinges on its ability to mobilize public support. While it is essential to recognize the role youth movements play in shaping public opinion, the actual impact of this particular group’s denunciation of Seyi Tinubu remains dubious. The political dynamics within Lagos State are multifaceted—characterized by entrenched party structures, political godfathers, and grassroots mobilization efforts that are not easily swayed by emotive proclamations.

A multitude of factors could ultimately determine the success or failure of Seyi Tinubu’s political ambition, including his political alliances, public perception, and policy approaches. Thus, it becomes evident that articulating opposition based solely on prophecy and emotional incitement may fail to resonate with the electorate. The group’s stance, while fervent, lacks the empirical grounding needed to effect meaningful change.

Alarmingly, the youth group’s proclamation offers little in the way of constructive criticism or specific critiques of Seyi Tinubu’s perceived “inexperience” or “unfitness” for office. The absence of concrete examples or a well-reasoned critique raises questions about the viability of their assertions. An effective argument would delve into his track record, policy proposals, or any relevant experience that could support a more rounded discourse. Instead, the statement resorts to sweeping generalizations and threatens failure without clear justification, diminishing its overall impact.

As a departure from emotional rhetoric, constructive criticism is crucial in fostering necessary discourse within the political framework. The lack of specific well-substantiated critiques risks alienating moderate constituents who may be open to scrutiny but prefer well-reasoned, evidence-based discussions.

The tone and content adopted by the youth group carry the potential to influence public opinion, particularly among like-minded individuals. However, in their current form, the statements might dissuade more moderate or neutral individuals who advocate for a rational, evidence-based approach to political discourse. Alienation often results not just from the message but also from the mode of delivery, which can render the argument ineffective.

Seyi Tinubu, the son of Nigeria's current president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has been the subject of speculation regarding his political ambitions, particularly concerning a potential bid for the governorship of Lagos State. However, there is no factual evidence to substantiate claims that he is actively nurturing such aspirations. Rather, Seyi Tinubu appears to be more focused on supporting his father's presidential agenda, a project that holds significant implications for the broader Nigerian populace.

In a nation grappling with multifaceted challenges, including economic instability and social unrest, the commitment to a collective national vision can be seen as a more noble pursuit than personal political ambition. Seyi's alignment with his father’s vision suggests a prioritization of national progress over local aspirations, indicating a desire to contribute to the well-being of the masses. This orientation highlights the importance of familial loyalty in Nigerian politics, where the interests of the family often intersect with national duties. Therefore, without concrete evidence of his gubernatorial aspirations, Seyi Tinubu's current trajectory seems to reflect a dedication to advancing the goals of his father’s administration, which could potentially yield greater benefits for Nigeria's diverse population.

In summary, the write-up reflects an urgent dissatisfaction among Lagos youths regarding Seyi Tinubu’s prospects for the 2027 elections. Regrettably, its objectivity and realizability remain impeded by emotional appeals and reliance on prophecy. For this group to make a meaningful impact on public opinion or sway electoral outcomes, presenting well-reasoned, evidence-backed arguments addressing tangible issues in Lagos State is imperative. The current approach, lacking in constructive critique, poses a challenge that ultimately leaves uncertain the influence of such statements on the governorship race, underscoring the pressing need for strategic advocacy grounded in substantial discourse. The time is now for Lagos youths to galvanize a movement centered around evidence and clarity rather than prophecy and emotion, lest their genuine grievances drown in the fervor of rhetoric.

Honey Can You Wake Me Up If I Die? This was the question my husband asked me like a joke on our first date, after I had said "yes" to him. I quickly dismissed it with a proclamation "God forbid it!!" and he quickly covered it up with other sweet words as he had noticed a slight change in my countenance. We forgot about it.

George is the kind of man that every woman would dream to marry because with him, there is no dull moment. He is very jovial and friendly, tall, handsome, caring, kind, not so wealthy but comfortably well to do and above all a serious prayerful Christian.

God had shown him to me in my 200level and I was waiting for him till 5years later when he had finished his Nysc and was working with a firm.
George and I used to go for ministrations together almost every weekends as he would always have invitations to preach in different programs. It was not a matter to me because I knew he is an Evangelist when God started telling me things about my husband back then in school.
I was ready for the work though I thought it would be a full-time work. My George was amongst those that would rather give honorarium after preaching, than taking honorarium from those who invited him to preach (Paul the Apostle of Jesus has been his role model).

In the 7th year of our marriage, all of a sudden he lost his job as a result of economical challenges in his firm. This resulted to them letting go of some of their staff of which he was among those that were affected.
I was just a fashion designer so we were all relying on my income, but of course it was a difficult time for my husband, especially as he was still applying for vacancies in other organisations.

After 7months, he got another job, but unlike the former, he had little or no space again for his personal study and ministry.
I tried advising him to quit the job but he promised to do that as soon as the one he is expecting clicks; so we all hoped that it was just a "passing time job" as he calls it.
The job was so demanding that my husband even works on Saturdays which he doesn't joke with before, because it used to be when he spends almost 80% of the day seeking the face of God.

It got me worried but when i talked with him about it, he says it a passing time job. Truth be told, gradually I began to notice that "My G" as I fondly call him had started growing cold spiritually and then I knew I had a serious war to fight, so I began to pray and fast as much as my strength could carry me.
As time went by, my husband seemed to be withdrawing from home to the point that even the kids noticed it. I started crying to the Lord, as even the Saturday that was half day was now the day he comes back as late as 10:30pm.

Even on our matrimonial bed, we sleep as though we are merely room mates, then I knew my home was on fire but I never stopped praying.
One day, he came back so early and by the time I came back, he was in a pool of tears. When he noticed my presence, he quickly reached to me and held my legs with his face down and pleaded for Mercy.

Tears dropped down my eyes but I never knew why he was crying so I helped him up and we sat on the couch as he started releasing the atomic bombs.

George had broken our marital vow. It all started at a staff meeting and then grew to dating which his boss claimed to be casual friendship and mere dates.
On one particular Saturday morning, she came to the office and pleaded with him to help her fix up something in her apartment as she wanted to collect some thing she forgot.
She claimed she didn't want to bother him after work or spend money on such a little task and so they went together. She was his boss by the way right? Hmmmm

After fixing the appliance of course it was done in few minutes, and then from compliment of the house to the compliment of the hair and body and then the unimaginable happened. They went to bed together!
It was a horror story to me as I shouted, screamed, cried and I opened my eyes to look at him again and be sure it was not my imagination, I saw a spiritual giant that has been crashed.
A man of God that was lifelessly dead in the Spirit.
Just then, the great 10 year old question was called back to my memory "honey, can you wake me up if i die?"
With an understanding that came to me, I muttered "yes" as a reply. We cried together for hours and we continued later in the mid night because we had to cover up things for the kids.

By the help of God, we started building again and God began to heal us together till I was able to wake him up from the dead.

Marriage is a very sweet relationship when you are married to your friend or the right person meant for you.
But there is a question couples need to ask themselves. That is, "Honey, can you wake me up if I die?"

You may meet me very successful in Business, but a day may come and the business is dead, can you wake me up?

I maybe on fire as a sister now, but after having 3 children with so many responsibilities l may be growing cold spiritually, can you wake me up?
It may not be as a result of infidelity, it may be an unguarded hour, it may be family matters, whichever it is that left me dead, can you wake me up? Think about it!!

We are meant for each other, so let's fight the battle together..
As the Lord helps us, we can arise together again!

Why do kidnappers succeed in collecting ransom from their victims?
Based on my job, I learnt something special this week from Security Agents in Mali that we went on a rescue mission together. I don't know if the Nigerian Security Agencies are in collaboration with kidnappers to take ransom and share together, if not no kidnapper can succeed in taking any ransom where security formation is effective.

The story is that, I received a message from Nigeria concerning a 16 year old girl that was trafficked to Mali for s*x trade. This victim called her parents about the situation and they passed the message to me from government agency for an urgent rescue.

When I called the number that the victim used to call her parents and I asked the traffickers to send the victim to me so that she can go back to Nigeria, they refused. Later they remove the line from their phone, now the number is out of use. I now informed a security agent about the situation because what is important is to rescue the 16 years old girl from s*xual exploitation.

Now, the number I used to contact the traffickers is no more in use. I don't know the name of the village the victim is. I sent the number that they have removed and brake to the security agent. After two hours, they notify me the name of the village and the current new number the traffickers are using. We went on a mission without calling the new number. We arrived at the village in the midnight because it was about 15 hours journey. The second day, Information reach us the exact location the phone number was last used before they switched off the phone. After an hour, information came again that the person is having appointment with somebody by 11:00am. We hang around the place. When the person came around, there was a vibration from one of their security gadget to know the person coming with the number. We monitor her entry to the house. We were able to rescue the victim on 20/12/22. No call. Nothing.

So ransom collection in Nigeria could be between the kidnappers and security agencies. If not, no Nigerian should pay ransom to any kidnapper if really our policemen have the necessary security gadgets.

This is just a trafficking issue and not that some criminals will hide somewhere and calling people twice to pay ransom. You cannot call three times before being caught in Mali.

That is the reason I said, Nigerian Security Agents could be in collaboration with the kidnappers to take ransom from people.

ILU AJẸ (TOWN OF WITCHES)

There is a small town on your way to Oyo, just behind Fiditi, it's called Ilu Ajẹ. Literally, it translates to "Town of Witches".

In the late 80s, there used to be a sign board in Fiditi that pointed to the path to the village, the signboard had the inscription :

"WAY TO ILU AJẸ, HOME OF SCIENCE!".

Lots of people used to fear indigenes of Ilu Ajẹ because it was said that every man in Ilu Ajẹ is born of a witch, and every woman in ilu Ajẹ is a witch!.

It was said some people visited Ilu Ajẹ to find out why a whole village would be populated by witches.

What they said:

Because the Baale (village head) is dead and no replacement has been chosen yet, we met with the chiefs who told us the history of the town.

The father of the current Alaafin, i.e Alaafin Adeyemi II was said to have many siblings when he was young. One of his siblings got missing!

A king's son got missing ke? Infact, scrap it, Alaafin of Oyo in those days was not a king, he was an Emperor! No, a deity!

When the son of such an entity gets missing, of course it's a very big trouble in the whole empire!

Hunters were commisioned to look for the son. Every nook and corner of Oyo town was searched. Every crevice was checked, all hilltops were visited, yet the Alaafin's son couldn't be found.

Like the shepherd who had 99 sheep but was despondent about the lone missing sheep, the father was heart broken about his missing son.

Herbalists were consulted, from Oyo to Ife. Sorcerers were recruited from Egbado to Ilaje, yet no one could help find the missing son. Kabiyesi was sad, Olori was pained, the whole empire was gloomy.

One evening, three months later, as the king and chiefs were in the open court deliberating on the issue, a Babalawo strolled into the palace court with his apo ifa (oracle bag), everyone looked at him in askance, "Baba, what do you want, why are you here, who do you want to see? Can't you see we are in the middle of a serious issue?" the chiefs asked him.

"Kabiyesi o", the herbalist greeted the king. "I am a babalawo from a remote and secluded part of the outskirts of town, i have come to help you with your missing son".

", 🤣 the chiefs laughed. "Babalawos from 'saner climes' have tried and failed, oniṣeguns with Harvard degrees have attempted and fumbled, who do you think you are? Please get out!".

Kabiyesi was just looking at him in a non-interested way. Not to treat the baba in a rude manner, Kabiyesi asked him to go ahead, but he should make it snappy.

Iwaju ọpọn o gbo
Eyin ọpọn o gbo
Olumu Ọtun, olukanran Osi
Aarin ọpọn Ita ọrun.....

Hear o north of the universe
Listen o south of the universe
Hear o wise ones of the east
Listen o knowledgeable ones of the west .....

The Babalawo made his divination and told the king thus... "Kabiyesi, you need not stress yourself. In 7 days time, when the sun is directly over the head, and man stands upon his own shadow, get 5 chiefs to sit under the shea butter tree at the eastern border of the town. They should be dressed in white, and they should continuously clap their hands rythmically in unison, On the 201st clap, the king's son would have reached them and he would ask for water".

It was clear, the Babalawo was MAD!

But one tries everything to find a lost son. so, though the recommendations of the babalawo was crazy, the Alaafin still carried them out.

Behold, on the 201st clap, the king's son came to them.

When the son was brought to the king and the events narrated, Alaafin Adeyemi the first was said to have asked "iru babalawo adifaṣẹ bi ajẹ wo ni babalawo un?". What sort of herbalist who makes divinitions that comes through like a witch's proclamation is this? Where does he live? The people anwered that he lived by a forest patch at the outskirts of Oyo. The king asked that he should be visited.

For a long time, when people want to describe the area where the herbalist lived, they would say ilu adifaṣẹ bi ajẹ. Over time, people just started shortening it to Ilu Ajẹ, they omitted the "adifaṣẹ". Thus the name Ilu Ajẹ was birthed.

Today, Ilu Ajẹ has no electricity and has no pipe born water. Given what their forbears did for the royal stool in oyo, they shouldn't be forgotten.
